kalon: (n) beauty that is more than skin-deep

During the ride to the psychiatric ward, it was silent. No one spoke. So silence is all Emme could listen to. Not even the radio was on. But at least Cam was there. He wanted - demanded - to ride with Emme to the hospital to help keep her comfortable. And Emme appreciated it.

Emme reached to the front of the car and turned on the radio. And the first song that came up was Undrunk by FLETCHER. Whispering under her breath, Emme sang along.

I'm afraid to turn the lights on

I don't want to face this rebound. Is it weird if I come over? I want to, but I know that she's around

While Emme sang, she bopped her head. Cam put his arm around her and pulled her into his body, crushing her into a hug. Tears escaped from her eyes, realizing even if her dad left, she still had people who loved her more than anything.

But she still fluctuates between wanting to die and wanting to live.

"Please don't leave . . . please," Emme whimpered into Cam's chest. She felt a wet drop of something on her forehead. Cam was crying. He nodded, knowing well that he wouldn't ever sacrifice this bond they have. Ever.

"You are beautiful. In more ways than one. I just wanted to let you know that," Cam whispered into Emme's ear. He kissed her forehead. Right where the tear had landed.

They continued to hold each other until they got to the hospital.

Emme sat frozen in the waiting room. It was cold. Cam couldn't stay, but he promised to visit her.

"Emerson Paige," a voice asked, breaking her out the haze.

"That's me," Emme said, cringing at the use of her full name. The nurse motioned for Emme to follow her. They walked down a long, baby blue hallway. It leads them to another room. There was another nurse in there. They went over some procedures.

Emme was given some grey pants and a simple white t-shirt.

"Dear, you can go to the next room over. It'll have a mix of boys and girls around your age. There will also be a counselor in there," one of the nurses said.

The room was easy to find because it was literally, the next room over. Inside, as she had said, there were a mix of boys and girls around her age and a counselor talking in the corner of the room.

Emme hid for a couple of seconds before knocking on the door. All eyes were on her. Dullness filled Emme's eyes as she put up her wall. The counselor motioned for Emme to open the door and join the group.

There were about 20 people in the room excluding the counselor.

"Hi! You must be new. My name is Miss Delilah. I'm the counselor," the lady paused," now it's time for introductions."

A friendly boy named Sebastian invited Emme to sit next to him, that way she wouldn't be lonely.

They easily got along.

At dinner time, Sebastian went to go sit with a bunch of other guys, leaving Emme too fend for herself.

One of the girls - Isla - smiled and waved Emme over to her table. There were 2 other girls sitting at the table.

"Hi! my name is Isla and this is Queeny," Isla motioned toward an Asian girl," and this is Marley." Isla motioned to the brown haired girl on Emme's right side.

In a monotonous voice, Emme said," I'm Emerson. But I prefer Emme." Isla smiled.

"I like you already," Marley whispered. A crack of a smile graced Emme's lips. But she hid it, not letting a soul from this hell see her smile.
