monachopsis: (n) the subtle but persistent feeling of being out of place

Emme groaned, a persistent pounding in her head. She felt a tight squeeze on her hand. Slowly, she opened her eyes.

By her side was her mom, and Cam was sitting at the foot of the bed. He quickly got up and grabbed her face in his hands and kissed her forehead.

"Thank you, Lord," Kim Paige prayed. She got up from the chair next to the bed and went to stand next to Cam. Kim breathed in deeply, preparing herself to explain what would happen from here, to Emme.

Emme said confused, "What?"

"Well, um, your dad has left home. And before you say anything, I just want you to know that we will probably be sending you to your Aunt's for a while to help you, eh,  heal," Kim said. Emme was taken aback. This was to many things at one time. And she for sure did not want to be separated from her family and Cam.

"Why," was all Emme could say. Her mom wore a guilty look.

"It's for the best. You have to understand," Kim said. Tears started leaking out of Emme and Kim's eyes. Emme tried so hard to understand, but she just couldn't.

Emme turned her head away from the two and looked out of the window in her room.

"I love you, Emerson," Kim whispered, turning away to walk out if the room. Those words only caused more tears. Cam started to follow, but Emme called out to him.

"Please stay." And Cam did. He walked over to Emme and just hugged her, tears streaming down his face like a heavy flowing river.

He leant his head down and kissed her delicate and plump lips. Emme moved her hands so she could hold his face. All she wanted to do was stay in this moment forever.
