To (Y/N)'s surprise, Unpredictable treated her every kindly. Recalling a time where she'd overhear [OPERATIVE] Emotionless and [OPERATIVE] Practical complaining how he'd be so distant - sometimes aggressive - toward the other operatives and civilians.

It seems that (Y/N) formed a soft spot in place of Unpredictable's heart.

Quite Placid: Chapter 4

Unpredictable fixes his steampunk cap, which had been asked for a portion of their adventure.

"Since it's getting rather late, I'll just show you to [ZONE 3] and then we'll head back to [OPERATIVE] Radiant's residence." Unpredictable explains to me, pressing the yellow button.

"Will do." I nod, the door releasing an array of mechanical noises. It finally opened to reveal the dark place, although nostalgic in my eyes. But, had it always been this eerie?

Unpredictable notices my hesitance. "There isn't anything to be worried about, (Y/N)," He says calmly. "I am trained to defend you."

Before we could fully enter the dark area, there was the fast pattering of footsteps. "Where do you think you're taking her?" Radiant appears at my side.

"[ZONE 3]." Unpredictable says flatly.

Radiant's eye twitches. "You've got to be joking me. I'll have another - more trusting - operative take her." He grabs my wrist. "Come on, (Y/N), let's get back to the my residence." He had lowered his voice when he spoke to me.

As if a dam broke, Unpredictable lashes out at the other operative. "For god's sake, Radiant!" He balls his fists in anger. "Quit acting like a protective boyfriend, it's pissing me off!"

As my face gets visibly red, Radiant's was stained red. Either from embarrassment or...

"It's not my fault you're so irresponsible!" Radiant barks.

"As if you are!"

Before they could continue, more footsteps come near.

Once my eyes adjust to the light, I register the new person joining us as [OPERATIVE] Placid. He was easy to spot. I was always fond of the mask he wore.

"It seems as though both of you are as irresponsible as you are trained," He sighs, dusting off his light blue suit with a white-gloved hand.

"Don't you walk into this, Placid!" Unpredictable growls.

Placid shakes his head. "I don't think (Y/N) wishes for you two bicker constantly. I'll have her stay in my residence tonight."

"What?! That's not fair -" Radiant interjects. "Unpredictable started this!"

Placid rolls his eyes from beneath the mask. "Don't you hear yourself? You're acting like a child!" he points out. "Besides, it's most likely she'll need a couple more days before the [SUPREME LEADER] decides what to do with her."

Radiant and Unpredictable silently pout, then head off to their residences for the night, glaring daggers at each other.

Placid sighs from his place beside you, looking on from where the two had taken their leave. He begins to walk toward the entrance, where the previous operative had taken me through.

I trail behind him. "Are they..." I pause, waiting for the mechanical unlockings to seize. "Always like that?"

He huffs, putting two fingers up to his temple. "Unpredictable is always so distant from us [OPERATIVES]. But I guess he can't help it." He repeated what Benevolent told me.

After he had explained his view, we walked in silence. By now, the sky was almost eaten up by nighttime. But, it was nice to finally have an operative to guide me - one that wasn't so quirky or overprotective.

Granted, Radiant treated me like royalty. I am grateful for that.

We finally came to Placid's residence. After welcoming me inside, I take in the layout of the wide room. It looked almost identical to Radiant's.

"Our residences aren't much different," he takes off his thin outer coat. "At least you'll be able to adjust easily."

I don't know what he meant by that. Not thinking too deep into it, I ask, "Where will I be sleeping?

"You can take my bed. I'll be out for most of the night."

I nod. I want to question it, but I know the serious business operatives did, and how no one dared to make an inquiry on it; they'd get shot.

He shows me to the bed, bidding a farewell.

After I got ready for bed and adjusted comfortably, I lay awake staring at the bland ceiling.

I don't even deserve all this kindness - especially from the operatives. All of them were typically known for being ruthless in their own unique ways.

Wait - was it because of my appearance?

No, what am I thinking? I shouldn't be thinking such arrogant thoughts.

Slowly, but surely, I drift off into slumber.
