Eiffel Tower

Tris's POV:

"It's just up here," Tobias said.

Having arrived in Paris two days ago, the whole gang has done a lot of sightseeing together. Today we all visited the Eiffel Tower which was so cool. It is around eight o'clock and Tobias says he has a surprise for me. I follow him down another alley and up a staircase, ending up on the flat roof of a tan building. There is a small dinner set for two on a white tablecloth, lights are strung up around the short wall on the edge of the roof, and you can see the Eiffel Tower in the distance.

"Did you do this?" I ask Tobias as I sit in the chair he pulled out for me.

"I wanted to make this night one you will remember for the rest of your life," he replied.

"Why?" I asked and he just shrugged.

"Well, thank you. It's amazing."

Then we ate a delicious dinner and chatted and laughed for hours. It was getting late when Tobias suddenly stood up and came to my side, kneeling in front of me.

Taking my hand he said, "Tris, I know we are only juniors in high school. New friends will come into our lives that we will never lose and old friends will leave who we will never forget, but I know that whatever happens I will remember you for the rest of my life."

Tobias reached into his pocket and pulled out a beautiful silver ring.

"This is a promise ring. I promise that I will stay with you through the good and the bad, and someday I will replace this one with an engagement ring when I propose to you."

I didn't realize that I was crying until he wiped away a tear from my face with his thumb. Carefully he slipped the ring on my left ring finger and pulled me into his lap for a kiss. Fireworks went off. Literally. It was ten o'clock and fireworks were lighting up the sky with blue, red, green, purple, and every other color imaginable.

"Your plan worked," I said laughing.

"What plan?" Tobias asked confused.

"This is definitely a night I will remember for the rest of my life."

"I love you Tris."

"I love you too Tobias."
