Rex Dangervest, the Defender of Syspocalypstar, looked out of Rexcelsior's biggest window. He observed the outdoors, and watched as the wind moved the tall trees.
He was consumed with boredom, and had absolutely no ideas on what to do. It was another boring day, without any work.
He hoped for something, anything, to come up and make the coming hours more exciting.
He sighed deeply, and retreated to his spaceship's living room area, which was perfectly decorated to fit his style. After all, he lived there, and desired comfort. Rexcelsior ave him more than any house could have provided.
The Defender sat down on his soft couch, and leaned back into it. The soft cushioning adjusted his body weight, as he looked towards the television.
A random movie played, but he wasn't paying much attention to it. He was busy thinking.
Ever since Emmet and Lucy got married, they had been distracted. In between the honeymoon, the dates, and the phase of pure joy, there was no time to hang out with anyone.
Rex was left without his best friend. The one he trusted the most. Himself, from an alternate timeline.
Married couples needed their time together, and that was an obvious fact. The Defender just had to learn patience, and he hoped he would quickly, because he hated the feeling of being alone.
He was alone for too long, and he never wanted to be again. Just as he feared he would succumb to his flashbacks of Undar, a sudden roar caught his attention.
The familiar roar of a velociraptor.
Rex turned his head, and looked behind him. One of his dinosaurs had arrived from downstairs, and eyed him with a softened expression.
"What's up, Rocky?" The Defender questioned, "Are ya hungry? Bored? Sick?"
The Raptor chirped a quiet response, then snuggled its head gently into Rex's stubbled cheek. It even licked him, as if given him an equivalent of a kiss.
He separated, and pet Rocky's snout with his gloved hand. "Don't tell me you're worried about me? Can you sense when I'm sad?"
Rocky roared, and Rex laughed joyfully. The tone in his voice became sweet and sincere, as if he was speaking to a child.
"I'm totally cool. I'm just bored out of my mind. I wish something exciting would happen. I hate just sitting here with my thoughts."
Suddenly, to his surprise, a knock echoed throughout Rexcelsior. Someone was at the ship's entrance.
The Defender was incredibly surprised, as he expected no visitors. "Who could that be?"
He got up from his couch, and rushed over towards the ship's entrance. He pressed the button to open the doors, and finally got a glimpse at the person standing outside.
"Hey, Rex." Emmet showed a smile, "It's um, been a while, huh? Technically this isn't a door, but I didn't want to just walk in, you know? The knock was okay, right?"
Rex smiled back, "Kid, it's so good to see ya! It's been a good few weeks."
"Yeah, and hey...I'm really sorry about staying away for so long. Lucy and I have been busy with things."
"A wife is a big deal. I get it. I might be your best friend, but nothing matters more than her. After all it's the 'sickness and in health', 'death do us part' stuff."
"You matter to me too. In a weird way, you're almost like a big brother to me." The Special replied, "An identical twin big brother, more accurately. I was hoping I could talk to you about something."
