David walked slowly over to the unmade bed and picked up the note reading it his hands shaking scared of what it might say
"David, I know you tried your best to help me. But staying with you made me realize that I'm unfixable and that no matter how hard you try I can't be fixed or better or whatever the therapist calls it so I want to save you the pain of having to deal with me and just leave-Max"
Davids tears dripped onto the paper staining the ink he didn't know what he meant by "Leave" and he was scared to find out he reached for his phone fumbling with it and called the police to file a missing person report after that he called Gwen the only person he felt he could talk to "G-Gwen max he's gone I don't know what happened to him he cou-" David said between sobs before being interrupted by Gwen
"Wait WHAT I'll be over in a minute," Gwen said as she hung up he walked out of Max's room still crying he got a tissue and blew his nose he sat on the couch thinking of where Max could be while waiting for Gwen in the living room
"oh God I am such a bad dad how could I have let this happen" David said mumbling to himself he snapped out of it when he heard a knock at the door it was Gwen
"I called the police they said they will put out an alert or something," David said letting her in Gwen hugged him "we will find him ok don't worry let's go look for him," Gwen said pulling him out the door
David was in his PJs and it was around 7 when they left to look they got in the car and shouted his name and asked people who where still out if they had seen him but to no luck David tried to call max several times but no answer that's when he remembered the find my phone app he put on Max's phone he opened the app and put in Max's phone info and it worked they followed it to where it said it was but when they got there he couldn't see him David got out of the car and looked around until he found his phone on the ground with the screen smashed he ran back to the car about to cry
"Let's keep looking he has to be around here somewhere," Gwen said wrapping her arm around him trying to comfort him
"Ok....." David said sadly with his head down Gwen sighed and started the car she stopped at a bus stop to ask a bunch of people if they had seen him even though she knew it was a long shot and of course they haven't seen him after that she just gave up and started to drive to Max's old house
"Do you wanna come in with me?" Gwen said getting out of the car David looked at the house and nodded and got of the car with a sudden burst of confidence he knocked on the door knowing someone moved in a bit after his parents got arrested after about a minute someone answered
"Hello?" She said smiling she looked to be in her 60s and smelled of licorice
"hi umm we were wondering if a boy came by here earlier uhh here's a picture of him" David pulled out his phone and showed her a picture of max
"oh yes a little boy did come by and tried to get in but when I answered he took off running in that direction," she said pointing down the street
"oh thank you so much," David said going back to the car
"Thank you" Gwen said as well as she ran off to the car along with David they got in and drove down the street finally Gwen decided to get out and look herself in between the houses and dark places she eventually found him between two houses covered up with a cardboard box around him when he saw Gwen he crawled out of the box and ran as fast as he could jumping the fences but Gwen was in hot pursuit he eventually gave up as he been traped by a brick wall he couldn't jump he rested himself on the wall sliding down to the groud not really knowing what to say "I am-"
"Save it I know you're sorry just save it for David," Gwen said sitting down next to him "let's just go home ok?" Gwen said taking his hand and leading him to David he hugged him tightly not wanting to let him go and brought him back to the house where they had a long talk about what went on at about midnight David and Gwen hugged max goodnight and went to bee themselves feeling good anout what was said they lived happily ever after as a family
