"Wow,"
Graham declares, my figure descending down the stairs. Graham was dressed in a nice tuxedo, probably the same one from the gala, while I paired myself with his sister's dress. A bit weird, if I think of it. "You look beautiful."
The glass-stained styled dress curved out my hips, and my waistline. The slit higher than I thought against my thigh; on Tara it looked right, but probably because it was designed for her tall built. The dress reveal more of my broad shoulders, cause me to feel a bit self-conscious, but the idea of this beauty heaved on my body dragged the thought away.
The seemingly navy train was more than navy—with different specs of colours inline into the fabric, carrying up onto my right arm as a sleeve. I matched with the same navy heels Tara wore—and gave to me. We were coincidentally the same size.
"Thank you," I draw out, careful to take the last steps and not trip over my train. "I've seen this before," I grab a hold of his blazer, "the gala?"
He nods, smiling, "you know, since moving in with Tara, I gotta save. Can't spend money carelessly."
"You spent forty dollars on a giant teddy bear the other day,"
"So?"
"You're seventeen!"
"And I'm still lonely, Francena," he scoffs, his arm out waiting for me to take it into his. "What's your point?"
I roll my eyes, not wanting to draw out a dumb argument that won't fix or be solved by the end of the day. Being Graham, he could argue countlessly on the benefits of a soft, big teddy bear in his home.
"How's Tara? How you guys in general?"
Graham takes me out of the house, where Graham's BMW is spot in sight. Iris and Erin in the backseats as they giggle on something I couldn't comprehend. Graham turns to me, a smile lifted on his lips. "Tara's a bit strict; she restrict the trust fund I managed to snag from my father, she keeps up on my homework and helps me out. It's different, it can be sometimes annoying, but overall nice. Someone's caring, y'know?"
I nod, not quite understanding the feelings because of my family situation being overall great itself, but knew where he was coming from. "The good news is that she doesn't take my phone or does those stupid punishments. She tries to talk to me more, and get to know me better throughout."
"That's great," I smile, and Graham nods, dragging me away from the sidewalk towards the car. He opens the door for me, allowing me to thank him like the gentleman he is, before he closes the door on me.
"Francena," I hear Erin's voice from behind, "you look gorgeous."
"Thank you," I smile at the brunette, "I don't see the full picture of your dress, but I'mma bet you both look amazing."
"Heck yeah I look amazing," Iris compliments herself, drawing out Erin in a laugh. I shake my head, turning back to the road as Graham pulls himself out of the driveway. He begins to ride down the road, while Iris and Erin converse about fellow colleges and the distance between theirs, I turn to Graham.
"Any acceptance letters?" I query to my best friend and he nods.
"I got accepted into a few, but not the ones I want. Like you, I'm waiting for Stanford." Graham and I had already planned on moving out of state together, when the time comes. Iris had already made it clear that she wants to stay in-state, and being with her acceptance (already) and given scholarship, she most likely will. "You?"
"Nothing yet," I sigh, leaning back against the chair. I look down at my dress, finding the design unique and unfamiliar. Most of the girls going into prom would most likely be wearing solid colours, I'm wearing a multi-thousand dress that Tara decided to discard after the first use.
