"Yoo hoo! Jess! You OK there?" Maddie shouted, slightly deafening my ears temporarily.
As I returned to reality, pretending to know what she was talking about, I answered, "Oh, yeah sure!" I closed my locker, with my text books in the other hand.
"Do you even know what I asked?" she posed.
"Yeah of course, umm..." I rolled my eyes around, wondering what to say. She stared at me intensely, waiting for an answer.
"... Sorry, I must have dazed off into some other world."
"I asked if you were coming to this year's prom!" Maddie said with a hint of anger.
"Oh, I don't know... maybe," I replied, just noticing the gal standing behind her.
I knew who she was, Bea De Leon, she was the school's bad gal, known for her treacherous actions.
She had light brown hair, with a silver earring on her left ear, hazel eyes and always wore her pants down low.
She gently pushed Maddie and Mafe out of the way, and had her friends guarding us. With one hand in her pocket, and the other leaning on the lockers next to me, she smiled.
And without warning, she lectured me about the upcoming Prom.
"So I heard you don't have a date to the prom." she stated.
"No I don't, but I..."
"Why don't you come with me?" she insistently interrupted. I stared into her eyes that sparkled in the light, and her cute yet somewhat evil grin pierced me like a knife piercing the skin. Confused with her question, she pulled out a small bunch of cherry blossoms and offered them to me.
I didn't know what to do, I couldn't just accept the flowers, but reject her offer to go to the prom.
And I didn't want to hurt her feelings, like she has any feelings anyway. Mafe and Maddie watched me as I had trouble answering the question.
Nervously, I answered, "Thank you, but no. I'm not going to the Prom. Why don't you ask someone else? I'm sure every other girl would want to go with you."
I walked away eagerly, wanting to get out of there ASAP, and Maddie and Mafe followed me.
"I can't believe you just turned down the most popular, hot, bad gal in school!" Mafe whispered as we walked away.
"I know, I can't either!" I replied.
That afternoon, as I sat in my room doing my assignments, I heard a car outside. But I wasn't bothered getting up to look out the window, until I heard someone screaming my name.
I apathetically got up and walked towards the window across the room. Surprisingly, as I gazed out the window, there she was, Bea. She didn't give up, not without a fight.
I hastily went downstairs to let her in. "Hey," I said softly as I opened the door.
A smile appeared on her face as she said, "Hey."
"Do you wanna go for a walk?" she said, placing her hands in her pocket.
As we walked along the footpath towards the park, it was quiet.
"So why aren't you going to the Prom?" she hesitantly asked.
"Oh, umm, I just don't feel like it I guess."
"Still bummed about Dane eh? Yeah me too."
I looked at her in surprise.
"She always believed in me, always thought that I could do much more with my life. But that all changed when she left. There was no one to encourage me to keep going."
Then it came to me, Bea wasn't that bad of a gal.
She seemed like it, but in the inside, she was a really nice person; sensitive, caring, considerate.
However, I still had a flame burning in my heart, for Dane. I promised myself I would wait for her, for Dane to come back.
"Look, if you ever need anything, you know, if you want me to beat someone up for you, just talk to me yeah?" Bea said, and I nodded in reply.
