Each day passes but not a day goes by that I don't think of her. I can't start one more morning without knowing Dane is here. I missed her so terribly.
Her smile, her voice, her touch, haunted me for the entire time she was gone.
Everyday I would wait by my window, and wait for her smiling face outside, she never left my mind, not even for a second.
Two years have passed and I still love her so much... missing her soft touch, on my face, and her wondrous smile that always brightened the room, and my life.
She gave me hope to keep on going, even after everything I've been through. But I never let go, I know she will come back, I just don't know when.
If I let go, I wouldn't know how my life would be without her. If I let go, I would never know how my life would be holding her close to me. Would I ever see her smiling back at me?
As these thoughts swarmed my head, I got a call from Maddie.
She insisted I went to prom, so I just agreed. With the thoughts still in my mind, I remembered the year 10 graduation, the one special dance with Dane.
I knew it just wouldn't be the same without her. Then the Hummer arrived to pick me up. When we got to prom, tons of people were already there. As Maddie and the gang went to dance, I sat by myself on a nearby table. I just wanted all these feelings to leave me, so I wouldn't have to deal with the pain and grief.
As time passed I noticed that everyone had someone, except for me. I decided to go home, since there was nothing I could do. I told Maddie I'd be leaving and soon I was on my way.
While I walked home, I just kept having thoughts of Dane and remembered all the fun times we had together.
As I was walking home, a car sped past me in the direction of the prom. I noticed someone in the car that looked familiar. I stopped walking and looked back. I shook my head lightly. All these thoughts of Dane started to play tricks on my mind. I swear I thought I saw Dane in that car.
——— Few Minutes Later———
When I was nearly home, I heard a car beeping behind me, but I ignored it. Then a car stopped right in front of me. That looked like the same car that sped past me a while ago.
Furious, I demanded to know what the driver's problem was. Then someone came out of the car.
In complete shock, I saw Dane, standing in front of me.
"D....ane" I stuttered.
She still had those hazel eyes that shined brightly, and that smile that always lightened up my life.
"Aren't you glad to see me?" she said with a big grin, and her arms wide open waiting for a hug.
I rushed towards her, and entered her arms. At that moment, I lost complete sight of the world, and just embraced that one special moment, I wanted it to last forever.
"Dane, there were times, when you were gone, when I wanted to give up and let go, but something told me to keep holding on." I said, looking deep into her eyes.
"That something was my love, for you," she replied.
"Let's go back to the prom, shall we?" she asked. I nodded and smiled.
When we arrived at prom, everyone was glad to see us, especially Maddie.
Dane brought me to the middle of the dance floor, and she held my hand tight.
As we danced, I gazed into her eyes and she leaned forward and kissed me. We continued into that wonderful night as if there were no tomorrow.
I knew everything would be fine now that Dane were here. I looked up to the clear glass ceiling, into the midnight sky, and remembered Melanie. I closed my eyes and embraced that very special moment that I would never forget.
Memories of my childhood with her filled my mind; soon, my wish became reality.
After two whole years of missing her, we were finally together again. I could finally live my life happily with her. I know this will last forever and ever, until the end of time.
Suddenly, Dane stopped, looked deep into my eyes, and placed her hand in her pocket.
As she kept her hand in her pocket, she said, "Jess, you know how much I love you right? You're everything I need in my life and I would do anything for you. You're the love of my life, forever more."
"Dane..." I was astonished by her words.
"Jess... do you love me?" she asked, taking my hands, and holding them so tight.
"Always and forever," I replied. The spotlight was positioned on us, and everyone was looking at us. As a new song played,
She slipped something on my finger... and asked, "Then, will you marry me?"
I looked down at my hand, and saw a diamond ring.
Immediately I replied with a kiss.
"I'm guessing that's a yes?" she said. I nodded with a tear falling down my cheek.
I hugged her so tight, as everyone cheered for us to dance, tears flowing from my eyes, tears of joy.
All that sadness, pain and suffering when Dane was gone, was all worth even.
