Can't believe Lauren dragged me down to this, and it's not the first time either. She always has a way to per-sway me into things. I'm with her at The Discoverers concert. They're an Australian grunge/punk boy band; Lauren will kill me if she knew I used the term "boy band". They're originally from the Central Coast and they've just become well known through the major cities of Australia. But they're not my style, not my music taste at all! Oh, the things you do for your best friend. She wasn't allowed to go by herself so she asked, or should I say told me to come. But I don't mind, gives me an excuse to get out of the house.
The show just started. We're third row from the front in the mosh pit and the atmosphere is amazing! The first support act just entered. They're some weird alternative band. I've never heard of them before; but again they're not really my style.
It's intermission now and Lauren has gone to get some food. Thank god, I'm starving! As I'm waiting I decided to take a panorama shot of the arena. These two girls behind me start laughing. I get an insecure feeling they're laughing at me, I'm not really sure why, but I just ignore them and continue with my panorama. As I look at the picture I took, pleased with the quality, the girls start talking really loudly, stating obvious things about me. My insecure feeling was right, they were laughing at me. It's making me really uncomfortable. Hurry up Lauren! I turn to see if she's far, but instead I just make eye contact with one of the girls. She stares at me harshly with her dark green eyes. I've never felt so threatened by a stare before, I wonder what her problem is?
After 5 minutes, Lauren finally returns with hot chips smothered in tomato sauce. We start to eat and I just forget about the two girls.
Act two and The Discoverers are on stage. They really know how to perform! I'm actually starting to really like them. I never really understood Lauren's fascination with them, but seeing them live has really given me a different perspective.
Half way through the act I start to feel the mosh get really agitated. Everyone keeps getting pushed about. I just jump along with it and try not to let it worry me.
"Ow! What the fuck?!", I yell
I just got hit in the back. I turn around and see the two girls are behind me jumping along with the crowd. Something suspicious about their facial expressions. I turn back to face the stage.
"Are you alright, Rubes?", Lauren asks with a confused look on her face.
"Yeah I'm alright, something just hit me", I reply yelling over the music.
A few songs passed and nothing's happened. But the mosh keeps getting more and more agitated.
Lauren is screaming the lyrics into my face as I dance with her. I can't believe I'm actually getting into this band, I've never pictured myself liking them ever. The mosh is getting more and more rough after each song. The atmosphere is intense! I look around the arena and it's incredible how good of a show they can put on. I stare at the lighting on the stage, the colours and shapes they have created is bewildering! I'm so close to them, I can feel their sweat flick onto me as the toss their hair around.
I feel something hit me again, so I turn around to see what it is, but can't see anything that could be hitting me so forcefully. I turn my focus on the stage again, and just as I turn to face the stage something hits me once more. This time its more of a push and I fall forward through the people in front of me, hitting my head on the barrier fence just ahead of them. I fall face first towards the floor, everything's going dark and cloudy around me. Soon enough the lights and sounds become a blur and all I see is black.
