Ever since he first saw him, Jesse couldn’t keep his mind off of the merman.
He didn’t even know his name, but he would like to know.
He hasn’t even heard his voice, yet he would like to hear it.
Jesse never felt this kind of crush before, but he discovered it wasn’t fading.
He ended up wanting to find him more and more.
Every day, Jesse went down to the beach; dawn or dusk, no matter the time.
A part of him regretted the fact that he’d left his fiancé because of this, but for that odd reason, Jesse still couldn’t get the image of that perfect creature out of his head.
Work was simple from day to day and his sleeping nights were filled with fantasies of him and that merman.
But, he rarely talked to his old pals; only gave them a small ‘hey’ and chatted for a few minutes before separating.
Jesse often doubted seeing the marvelous creature again, considering it had been months.

And today, he walked down to the beach as usual and sighed.
He was in his swim suit and he didn’t plan to do much, concidering he was alone; as he’s been for a while now.
“Maybe today will be different..” He stated to himself, not truly believing in that statement.
Jesse knew he was losing hope, but no matter what he told himself, he kept getting sadder at the idea of never finding him again.

He stepped towards the water, his sandals sinking in the sand slightly.
Watching the ocean, Jesse glanced back up at the town behind him.
No one was really at the beach, at least not this stretch of shore.
Farther down to his right, kids played while their parents watched or swam with them.
But here, near the rocky cliffs, it was deserted.
He stood at the water for another few minutes, debating whether or not he should just go home, thinking it was pointless to keep trying.
But, hope was still in his heart; in his yearning heart…

Jesse closed his eyes and breathed in the fresh air, then slowly opened them and kicked off his sandals, leaving them behind as he dove into the cool water.
He swam toward the horizon and relaxed while he did back strokes slowly, eventually stopping to float, letting the water carry him.
When he swam, Jesse always seemed to let go of his stress and worries, leaving his mind clear and at peace.
He always went out farther than most people because he knew he could get back just fine; he was a lifeguard after all...well, used to be a lifeguard.
But that was roughly ten years ago when he was foolish and unregretful.
He made so many mistakes, but now he let them stay in the past, knowing it did no good bringing it up.

The sun warmed his skin and Jesse sighed, feeling the waves lull him back and forth.
He felt himself starting to doze off, a mistake no one should make, but Jesse for some reason didn’t care at the moment (or at least didn’t think about it) because he let sleep overtake him.
