Christian sighed as he threw his bag down on the floor. He was angry. He had missed a goal against Manchester City in the Champion's League that would've forced a draw—instead, City won, making the next game even more important.
And to make matters worse, it was Valentine's Day, and he was stuck in Amsterdam more than 300 miles away from his wife and children.
He went to his kitchen and opened up his lap top. He went and clicked on FaceTime to talk to Hallee, Sabrina, and Morgan. He waited for Hallee to pick up while he got some food ready.
"Daddy!" Sabrina grinned.
"Hi, sweetie pie! Happy Valentine's Day!"
"Happy Valentine's Day, Christian," Hallee smiled at him as she appeared on screen with Morgan.
"Happy Valentine's Day, darling. I love you so much. Did you three get my gifts?"
"We did. Thank you so much," Hallee smiled, "I love you."
"I love you too. I'm so sorry I'm not with you three."
"We understand," Hallee shrugged, but Christian knew better. He could hear the sadness in her voice.
"Hallee."
"It's fine, babe. I know. It's your job," she moved to make sure the pot on the stove didn't boiled over.
"I'm still so sorry. I'll make it up to you. I promise," he smiled half-heartedly.
"Really, don't worry about it, Christian," she smiled over her shoulder.
"I will. I love you."
"I love you too. You played so well."
"I missed a goal."
"It's not your fault that Ederson caught them ball. You know that."
"I know. But it should've gone in. That would've meant we'd go into the next game with a draw."
"I'm sorry. Get some sleep, hon."
"I will. I just wanted to talk to you."
"I love you."
"I love you more."
