"I heard about your heart transplantation today", Danny whispered as he softly kissed my neck, "Stark joined you?"
I giggled as he laid his arm around my waist and pulled me closer towards him. I felt his cold breath on my skin before he kissed my neck again.
"Yeah, he did", I replied quietly and closed my eyes, "He felt like he was trapped in his office."
"What's it like to work with him?"
"He's nice, really", I answered, "He didn't try to tell me what to do at all. It was great."
"So, you think you can work with him?", he wanted to know curiously.
"I think it'll work", I agreed with him, "We've been an effective team today!"
"Sounds like your day has been pretty good so far", he concluded smirkingly.
I turned around to look at his beautiful blue eyes. Then, I gently stroke his black hair and kissed him softly.
"And it has just become even better", I mumbled regarding him closely.
"Mhm, I love you so much", he whispered and kissed me again.
I giggled like a teenage girl.
"I love you, too", I whispered back.
Suddenly, I heard my pager ring.
I looked at the screen.
"Dr. Hunt is paging me", I explained and got up.
"Urgent?", Danny asked watching me getting dressed again.
I nodded.
"I'll see you later", I said goodbye and kissed him one last time, "Don't wait for me if it's already too late."
"Sure", he agreed, "I'll tell Elsa goodnight from you."
I smiled at him before I exited the ready room.

"What happened?", I asked as I reached the ER.
"Car accident", Hunt explained as we were running to the elevators to get upstairs, "The man had a heart attack and crashed into another car."
"What about the others?", I wanted to know anxiously.
"They're okay, just some fractures and mild concussions", he explained.
"Good, then let's make this guy feel better, too", I concluded as we reached the OR.
I entered the scrub room and got ready as fast as possible.
You're not going to die! Not today! I won't let that happen!

I put away my dark blue scrub and closed the door of my locker. I grabbed my jacket and sighed.
"Knock, knock", I heard his heartwarming voice, "Rough day?"
I sighed and looked up to him.
"His wife was pregnant", I whispered as my eyes filled with tears.
Nathan came closer and sat down right next to me.
"I let him die", I sobbed and wiped away the tears, "And now his child has to grow up without a father..."
"It was not your fault", he tried to console me and carefully stroke my back unsure if he was allowed to touch me anyway.
"I know I shouldn't make it so personal but I just..."
My voice failed.
"It's okay, Kate", he whispered softly and laid his arm around my shoulder, "You're just not that colt hearted. And that's good, okay?"
He held me in embrace softly stroking my head. And although I barely knew him I felt safe as he held me with his strong arms.
We remained in that position for a while.
"I don't want to make you feel uncomfortable", Nathan suddenly said, "But what about our dinner?"
Immediately, I started to laugh.
"Sure", I replied and he carefully let me go.
"Only if that's ok for you and your husband..."
"My husband is not the problem, he's grown up, he understands", I countered and wiped away the last tears, "But my daughter..."
"Your daughter?", he repeated in disbelief.
I nodded and smiled as soon as I thought of her.
"Really, tell me your secret!", he repeated jokingly, "No, seriously. How old is she?"
"Saturday was her sixth birthday", I explained as we exited the locker room.
He smiled as I told him.
"What about you? We've talked about me so much. What about you, Nathan? Did your wife move with you?", I asked curiously.
"Why do you think I'm married?"
I looked up to him. Then I looked back to his hand where I've seen a wedding ring earlier this day.
Obviously, he followed my thoughts.
"Oh, no", he countered and laughed, "We're divorced. Yeah, she just couldn't handle me any longer."
"I'm sorry", I apologized.
Gosh, how stupid I was!
"No need to feel sorry", he said, "It was the best for both of us. We married young and it simply didn't work out. Maybe that's why she preferred sleeping with my former best friend..."
He forced himself to smile but I knew he was just faking.
We exited the hospital. As usually, it was raining.
"Ah, I forgot my umbrella", he suddenly realized, "I still have to get used to these rainy days..."
"Luckily, I didn't forget mine", I retorted jokingly and opened my umbrella, "Come down here!"
He smirked and joined me.
"Do you still love her?", I asked carefully as we walked along the pathway.
He looked at me. His golden brown eyes were sparkling like thousands of little stars.
"No", he replied in a serious tone, "It's been a long time since then. I'm over her..."
"But still she's the reason why you moved to Seattle", I corrected.
He stared at me intensely.
"You're really good", he agreed then, "But not because I'm still in love with her... I'm mad at my best friend for doing this to me. And now he even proposed to her. I just couldn't deal with that..."
"So you ran away?"
He smirked at me.
"Very good, again."
"But why do you still wear your ring?", I wanted to know.
"That's a good question and there's a simple answer... It was very expensive!"
Immediately, I started to laugh.
"No, seriously... That's not the whole story", I mumbled and looked at him again.
"Maybe, I just can't let go off her completely", he admitted quietly.
"Obviously, she didn't deserve you at all", I whispered as we finally reached the restaurant.
He smirked at me again.
"Let's skip that for now", he said, "Tell me about your life in Germany!"
I giggled.
"What would you like to know?", I asked as he politely opened the door for me.
