Chapter 34

When I woke up early in the morning, I felt some strong arms wrapped around me and the warmth of someone's breath on my neck.

Slowly, I turned around just to look right into his golden sparkled eyes.

"Good morning, Kate", he whispered quietly, gently tucking a strand of hair behind my ear.

I blushed as soon as I felt his touch on my skin.

"Good morning, Nathan", I whispered and couldn't hide the smile on my lips, "Thank you for staying."

He half smiled at me.

"This was the first time since the incident with...", I paused for a second because I couldn't say his name, "Well, it was the first time I was able to sleep without any nightmares. So, thank you."

"Oh, I'm glad I could help", he mumbled smirkingly and hesitantly leaned in for a kiss.

I buried my fingers in his hair, pulling him closer towards me.

Then we turned around until he was hovering above me, his beautiful eyes regarding me closely as he softly ran his fingers along my cheeks.

Slowly, he leaned in for another kiss.

I wrapped my arms around his neck to hold him close, enjoying every touch and every kiss of him.

Closing my eyes, he softly kissed down my neck as a quiet moan escaped my mouth.

But as soon as he reached my collarbone, I quickly opened my eyes, my heart pounding like mad.

"Nathan", I mumbled and carefully touched his shoulder.

Immediately, he looked up to me again.

"I-I-...", I stuttered nervously but he gently placed a finger on my lips.

"Shh", he whispered and half smiled at me, "It's okay. I understand. Take your time."

I nodded quickly, faking a smile.

"Hey, don't worry", he added and laid down right next to me again, crossing his arms behind his neck as he stared at the ceiling, "Your were dead and came back to life. I've lost you and you came back to me. I won't run away again, Kate. I promise."

"Okay", I finally agreed with him and softly kissed his cheek, "And thank you. For everything."

He turned to me, not knowing what I was talking about.

"I know what you've done for me", I added then, "Rose told me... You saved me, Nathan. You brought me back to life. You gave me the chance to change and see my daughter again. And I think, I've never really thanked you for that. I'll always be deeply indebted to you."

"I only did my job", he countered and half smiled at me, "I couldn't let you die as long as there was the slightest chance you might wake up again. Nothing special..."

"Nothing special?", I repeated sarcastically and playfully punched his shoulder, "You're the reason I'm still alive. If you had given up that day, well..."

"The past is in the past, Kate", he countered quietly and kissed me again, "We should forget about it and look forward to our future."

Immediately, I smiled at him.

"Okay?", he wanted to know.

I nodded quickly.

"Okay!", I agreed then, "Um, would you like to have some breakfast?"

"I'd love to", he replied and immediately jumped out of bed.

I giggled as I quietly watched him get dressed again.
I've never actually realized how well trained he was. Of course, I've seen his strong biceps but those abs... He was incredibly good looking!
