Sinn walked through the halls of Academia, the jeers and slurs directed at him being ignored. He had his eyes trailing across the words of a book being held in one hand, the other stuffed into his pants pocket.
"Hey, Hitamachi!" One yelled. "How would you like that book thrown in your face?!"
Sinn rolled his eyes before returning to read, taking his hand out of his pocket to wave in the general direction of where the threat came from with nonchalant ease..
"My father can come up with better threats, and he's dead," Sinn replied loftily. "If you're going to insult me, at least do it better than that."
Someone actually did end up throwing a book at him, hitting him square at the back of his head. Sinn could hardly feel it, though. It didn't really hurt all that much at all. After all, his left arm was already trashed beyond repair and forever stuck in a wrist brace.
Pain didn't bother him at all. At least, not anymore.
"Sinn-Hi!" Someone's voice called out to him as they plucked the book out of his hand. "Hey, come on, chin up! Look at me!"
"Amika, I didn't save my spot," Sinn said in annoyed tone. "I told you to stop taking the books I'm reading while I'm reading it."
He looked up at the girl in front of him wearing the Ra Yellow uniform and a red scarf just like his, her dirty blonde hair let loose in stringy curls with a single thin, wispy tailed braid hanging down her right shoulder. Her bright grey eyes were still twinkling even though he was irritated with her at the moment.
"Well, you gotta keep your head up when they're insulting you!" She said, pointing the book at him as she kept walking. "You just gonna take that?"
"I don't care at all," Sinn replied lazily, plucking the book from Amika's hand and tucking it underneath his arm in defeat. He wouldn't be able to read with Amika around.
"You should!" She twirled around as if she was a princess. "Wanna let me fight 'em?"
"You're already in trouble for fighting an Obelisk Blue, don't you dare," Sinn muttered in response. "Any more and you'll get deported off the island."
Amika only groaned in response, raising her hands in the air in exasperation.
"Man who CARES?" She exclaimed. "I didn't wanna be here in the first place, so that'll be a win for me! The only reason I stay here is because of you anyway!"
"You know, you really shouldn't say that at the top of your lungs," Sinn tugged on a piece of his hair. "There are people who can exploit that."
Amika only shrugged, exaggerating with every movement. But then she got that specific look on her face that Sinn knew would mean bad news for him, the look of her raising her eyebrows and smirking with mischief in her eyes.
"What are you planning now?" Sinn groaned.
"Our birthday, silly!" She exclaimed as Sinn unlocked the door to their apartment-like dorm room and let her inside. "Our birthday is tomorrow!"
"Is it?"
Amika looked at him in surprise.
"Are you being serious? When was the last time you looked at a calendar?" She exclaimed. "How can you forget your own birthday?!"
It was Sinn's turn to shrug, pulling out a cup from one of the cabinets.
"Why would I need a calendar when you remind me of everything all the time without me having to ask?" Sinn said, pouring some water and downing it in one go. "Besides, birthdays are a waste of time if you ask me."
