ESKA POV

"Where the hell is that help you said was coming?!" I shouted at the Den Mother, who was killing rogues with one hand and healing the pack with the other. Other than the Alphas, me, and my twin, she was the most powerful member of the Gill Pack.

She looked at me, "They should be here riiight aboouut... Now." as soon as she said that five vampires and a guy with a scythe came roaring out of the forest.

One of the vampires let out a whoop of excitement as he tore out a rogues throat. I was so distracted by him tearing out the rogues throat i didn't hear the rogue behind me until he let out a death gurgle. I spun around my sword flashing into my hand.

Over the dead rogues corpse stood one of the vampires. Unlike the others he gave off waves of power that had the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.

"Watch your back, OK? My name's Alex by the way." he said as he threw a knife at a rogue. He smiled as he was rewarded with a scream of agony.

"You too. My name is Eska Davesson." I responded. He wass decent looking, I geuss

He nodded and looked past me at the werewolf with the scythe. I turned andd took a better look at him.

Oh. My. Word.

I swear that in greek times he would have been called Hades. Black hair, now speckled lightly with blood, he had piercing yet patient green eyes that kept flashing different colors saying that he was one of the Shattered like me and my sister, a slightly crooked nose, signifying that it had been broken at some time, a full mouth with a face that was free of freckles but had a long scar that went from the top left to the lower right. I then started looking at the rest of him, and damn, he was TALL. Seven feet tall at least, he had muscles that weren't too big, like wrestler or real jock, but not so small that peo[le took him for a weakling, a black leather trench coat, a black shirt, black jeans, and black combat boots he looked like a guy  who had seenn more than his share of battles. When he started moving I jerked my eyes up to his to see that he was looking torwards Alpha Tom.

"Alpha!" I shouted. I ran forward to help him when Alex stopped me. I growled and swung my elbow into his stomach.

I never touched the mark. I looked at his eyes to see a fear that I had only seen once before. That time it was when somebody was savving my sister from a fire that had killed our parents.

Then I heard the laghing over the screams of the wounded and dying.

It was deep. Dark. Sinister. Almost insane. I remembered the last time I had heard laughter like that.

With the last Painscream.

I knew that the curse was hereditary but not that it got stronger with each generation.

I gulped, looked at Alex and said, "Thanks for holding me back."

"No proble-" He cut himself off as he jerked his head towards the guy with the scythe.

That's when the scent hit me. It was like a combination of rain, saltwater, pine, and oak.

Immediately my sister, who had just jumped out of the tree next to me, and I both said one word.

"MATE!"

BLADES POV

"How the fuck do I have second chance mates?" I asked Silver. "I mean, not that I'm complaining or anything, but, seriously. How. The fuck?

"My geuss? Sarah rejected you without even seeing who it was that she was rejecting."

"Certainly not the most out there idea you've ever had. Keep in mind, that's coming from a guy who saw his previously-thought-to-be-dead sister in the Dream World."
