Chapter Eighteen
Lavi's pov
**
The irony about life is meeting a stranger that changes your life forever. Take Katherine and me for a example; first day of arrival, she was just a pretty face I was determined to make friends with and now I know things about her that I would have only guessed wrong from the beginning.
The thing about falling in love with a stranger is that we get to know them bit by bit like some adventure of a life time.
Running away from home with her five months ago was some crazy adventure indeed and we managed to live through each moment with the help of another stranger.
We met a stranger as well who helped changed our lives in a kind way.
Baba Ade was the first to offer me a job when I went looking for one and though I was a stranger; he didn't mind and gave me the job either way. And when I asked for advance in my pay; he gave me without asking what I needed it for.
Baba Ade has always regarded me as a son and that's why I couldn't leave without saying goodbye to him.
He was beyond surprised to see Aunt Nene and I arriving his shop together because apparently, aunt Nene wanted to say her goodbyes as well.
"Ekaro Baba" I greeted with a bow of the head.
"Aaah ah Ayo my son! Where have you been?" He glanced over to aunt Nene and then back at me.
"...I see that you and Iya Hope has met already"
Aunt Nene by passed me by the entrance and step a little forward.
"You are right ore mi and am here to thank you for the immense help you rendered to me while I was looking for them"
"Oh! You have found the girl you were looking for? I knew Ayo my boy would be able to help you out"
"Yes he did indeed" replied Nene
"Come and seat down then" ushering us into his shop.
Baba Ade looked confused when Aunt Nene had finished explaining to him that I was the same boy who had ran away from home with her boss's daughter and the circumstances surrounding our decision to elope.
His eyes grew a little wider for a split second before darting from Aunt Nene and back at me a few times as he continued to stare with his mouth slightly agape.
"Iya Hope! Are you saying Ayo here is the same boy you were looking for all these while?" His eyebrow furrowing in confusion.
"Yes Baba! My name is also Lavi and when we got here, I thought I would use my native name instead and am sorry if I didn't tell you all these while. I just didn't want to jeopardize our staying over here especially not with people after us and I thought we would be safe here" I explained with a sorry expression on my face.
"Tori olun!" Baba has exclaimed loudly
"I knew from the onset that, they was something different about you. You seemed more intelligent than a street boy trying to fend for himself and to think that you were doing all that hard work for a girl you had ran away with makes me really proud of you"
We stayed with Baba for a while before announcing our departure not just from his shop but also from the land of Ekpe as well.
"Don't forget to come visit us sometimes okay?" Said Baba waving at us.
"I won't forget Baba"
My chest felt heavy the moment I step outside his shop and was about to leave. I wasn't just saying goodbye to Baba but to a place I had called home for a while now and it's not as easy as I had imagined it to be.
Saying goodbye to the few people I have met over here is harder than getting to know them when we first got here but the thought of going home was also brewing something stronger within me.
Home is where Katherine and the babies are and I'd get a chance to speak with my parent as well and make things right between us. I need to tell them all about my two boys. I bet they won't be able to resist them once they see how charming they are.
Aunt Nene's hand dropping on my shoulder has brought me back to reality as I turned to face her.
"Shall we get going now?"
Baba was still waiting behind us as I turned around to glance at his direction for the last time.
"Not yet"
Baba was shocked at my gesture when My arms flew around him in a tight embrace.
"Thank you Baba...I will never forget you" I cried into his bosom.
With his hands holding me at arms length when we parted, he smiled at me.
"I won't forget you too my son and you are always welcome here anytime, any day"
"I will always remember that baba"
Picking up the pace beside Aunt Nene where she stood staring at my emotional farewells with Baba. I shrugged at her.
"We can go now"
"Okay"
Here I come!
