Chapter twelve

Aunt Nene's POV

**

My search for Katherine has been futile; yielding no positive results for over a month and half now, am left with no other choice but to go home.

How do I even go back to that place and even worst?empty handed. I was so sure I'd find them here but I was absolutely wrong. Baba Ade had tried so many times to introduce me to that boy that was supposed to help me find them but each time am to meet him, he either goes out of town or doesn't even show up at all.

God..

First thing tomorrow morning, I will have to move to another area in search of them. I already made a promise to myself that I won't go back to that house without her so they is no going back for me.

I was lost in thought as I walked along the pedestrian that night. The street light was shining as always as I continued to head home from where I had gone to buy banana in the street.

I came across a small crowd at the end of the street and decided to take a look.

Maybe someone has been involved in an accident and I can be of help.

As I got closer, I realized a lady bend over on the floor groaning out in pain. Another lady who was squatting beside the one on the floor was shouting out to someone to please stop a taxi or a tricycle in other to take the victim to the hospital.

I continued to push my way through the crowd trying to get a glimpse of the lady's face and the closer I got; the more anxious I was becoming.

Why do I feel this way?

The first thing that caught my eyes was those mass of curly hairs and lot and lot of swearing flowing out of the lady's mouth and in my head;  I could picture only one person that could fit into that features so perfectly.

Katherine!

I pulled the lady kneeing over her aside a bit as I took a closer look at her face and behold; it was indeed her and it wasn't an accident as I had thought! My child was in labor pain.

Oh God!

I pulled her into my arms as I fell to my knees beside her.

I found her at last!

"It's okay my child. Don't be scared! You and your baby will be fine. Just be strong and hold on" I had assured her wiping the tears off her cheeks.

She stared back at me with tears in her eyes as she continued to bite down at her lower lips. It's obvious her water has broken already and it won't be long before she gives birth and that why we must hurry.

I untie the scarf on my head and had it wrapped around her shoulder with my arms still holding her close to my chest.

"Someone please get a taxi. We need to get her to the health center right away" I had spoken to no one in particular hoping the people around can just do as I say and just stop staring at us.

I continued to console her as we head to the hospital in a tricycle. Her nose and cheek are all red from crying too much.

She was in a lot of pain...that I am sure of.

We arrived at the health center twenty minutes later but found no doctor on duty. Only the two staff nurses were around and without further delay; they took her into the labor room.

Its appears that they knew her very well and were even expecting her delivery soon.

I turned to exit the room in other to call her father but felt her hand holding me back.

"L-lavi; you have to find him and bring...bring him here please" she sounded desperate as she pleaded with her eyes.

The joy of seeing her and at the same time trying to get her to the hospital has made me to forget about that boy completely and now that I think about it; where is he?

If he is not here with her then where could he be?

Taking her hand in mine, I beamed a small reassuring smile at her.

"Where is he my dear?"

"I-i don't know aunt. I was out looking for him before all of these happened. Please help me to find him"

"Okay.. Don't worry now. I will find him and bring him to you. Just tell me where to look and I will go get him"

"O-okay...go now! I don't wanna give birth without him"

She grabbed at the bed sheet hard before letting out a muffled scream into the pillow.

I checked the time on my phone and it was 11:33pm. If I don't call her father now, he might get here really late and we can't afford any form of delay at this point.

I also need to find that boy and get him to her as soon as possible while we wait for her father to arrive.

Let hope, there is no traffic on the third mainland bridge or this would be the longest night yet to live through.
