Seonghwa slowly fluttered his eyes open, groaning slightly at the sudden light that was (to say) quite overwhelming. When his sight finally adjusted, he shot a glance at what was around him; White walls, white sheets; White floor— Hongjoong? He tried to move his body towards the sleeping frame, but was quickly stopped at the sudden pain that spread throughout his body. Where is he?

     "Hyungjoong! Hyungjoong!"
     "Mmh.. Five minutes, mom.."
"Do I look like..? wake up! where are we? did you kidnap me?"
      "You don't remember..?"

Silence filled the room.
Hongjoong, although quite sleepy at the moment, was eyeing a bruised Seonghwa with a look that screamed worry. He doesn't remember..
The smaller gained back his composure, clearing his throat before turning his gaze towards the wall in front of him. He couldn't face Seonghwa, couldn't see his cuts without feeling the guiltiest he had ever been.

"Think of what you did during the day, the whole day, please."
"Weird, but okay. So I woke up up, Yunho came to dye my hair, disaster. We went to his place like usual, watched movies, until like..10pm? Mom freaked out like always. So like the good son I am I walked home, slowly though. That's it? Why did you want to know anyway?"
"Seonghwa, we're in a fucking hospital."

The latter raised his eyebrow until it hit him. Memories went back and shot him, the same feeling he would feel a bullet had pierced his chest. He remembered the stares of disgust, the sour laughs and the blood flowing. The fear he had experienced came back to him, panic embracing each and every one of his bones and muscles. His mind and sight went blurry, his mouth blathering incoherent words. He felt his breath itching, gasping for more as the sudden panic attack was overwhelming him.

"Seonghwa..? Seonghwa, breathe, okay? Y-you're safe, I'm here.. it's okay."
         "No.. they're.. t-they.."

Hongjoong never was the one to be caring to anyone, even less be cared for. He had grown up in a cold home, always working, keeping composure as the eldest child. No affection was shown from his mother, talks built with "how's school?", no smiles, no hugs and no mental support. That's how it had always been, and grew up to be, strong, at least on the outside.
But after seeing Seonghwa's body shake so much, his bruised skin and acid tears; he knew he had to act, make him feel safe.
His arms then automatically wrapped themselves around the fragile boy, keeping him close to his beating heart while gently stroking his soft hair. Everything felt so stiff in the first seconds, the two bodies tensing at the sudden contact; but they soon enough started to relax as well as Seonghwa's sobs and heavy breaths. While he noted his heart was calming down, he started singing a lullaby his dad was used to sing him, on stormy nights.

someday, i'll wish upon a star
and wake up where the clouds are far behind me
where troubles melt like lemon drops
above the chimney tops
that's where you'll find me

Hongjoong's voice flowed like honey against the plain and sad immaculate walls, enveloping the whole place in a warm atmosphere and Seonghwa's small snores were soon heard. Cute. He had fallen asleep as fast as he had woke up, quite strange in Hongjoong's opinion, but at the moment, he couldn't quite care; for he had the boy he really liked sleeping against him, face buried in the crook of his neck and hot breath fanning his skin.

To be honest, he would have literally died if it wasn't for the state Seonghwa was currently in. Calm your man tiddies, Kim Hongjoong. He could hear the light heartbeat of Seonghwa, but mostly his erratic one, thumping against his chest as if his heart was going to pop out at any seconds.

But now wasn't the time for Hongjoong's feelings, was it? he had to concentrate on Seonghwa and his current state only. Trauma had fallen upon the poor boy without him asking at all, and he was now badly injured, laying in a hospital bed with the mere presence of Hongjoong to accompany him. It was horrible. How was he supposed to cope with everything now? How was he supposed to walk down the streets feeling safe without having to remember what happened? How was he supposed to be the same person?

That was what worried Hongjoong the most, he was afraid of the mental damage he would have and how it would affect their relationship, even if it was selfish. He wanted to keep seeing his beautiful smile and precious giggles, he still wanted to see the obnoxious sparkles next to his eyes. He was scared they would disappear forever.

His heart felt like it was shredding into pieces at the moment and the only feeling that overwhelmed him was guilt. If only he had been here sooner, if only he had listened to Jongho and called him to talk. If only.

But there wasn't a way to go back in time. So he just sat there, Seonghwa fast asleep against him and thoughts running through his mind.

Another thought popped. One that made his whole body shiver and freeze at the exact moment it crossed him. You still haven't told him the truth. He had planned to tell him, he really had.

But he didn't want to make Seonghwa suffer anymore, he didn't feel like imposing him yet another burden.
He knew it wasn't the good decision. It was way too cruel, but he would, for now, remain a liar, as painful as it was.

That's what he had always been good at, and even in the calm atmosphere of the hospital room,
he lied.
