Next day falls upon us, all I can say, is Selina and I celebrated like any couple could when they choose to get married. Thankfully, on an actual bed and without anyone who could judge us. I know Selina doesn't have anything fancy, so I sent her out with some money to go and collect something for herself to wear when we got married. I have some old clothing Arthur used to wear and here, I see it fit to wear. He gave me some of his nicest vests that he claimed he didn't wanna wear anymore and he felt looked better on me, just a little loose considering I'm not as meaty as he was. Wish I was though, hell of a man there.
I allow my hair to get slicked back and combed out, not worrying too much about the hate because I figured it wasn't going to be worth wearing. Who wears a hat to a wedding? Then again, I felt like it would be better to wear it in a sense, honor Arthur as best I could given he couldn't be here. I wished that the Marston's could be here, Jack, John, Abigail, Sadie and Charles as well. Everyone who I knew mattered. Maybe in the future if we did have a proper wedding, we'd make sure that they all could come. No doubt about it. Right now though, I was happy that Nathan was able to come. He--- Well, he had been with me since we was kids. Always looking out for one another. Going on at least eleven or twelve years of friendship and I was more than pleased with where we were headed now. He was about see me get married, I know that this wasn't as traditional as most would want. We didn't date for years on end and if anyone did ask, well, we knew the bare minimum about one another. We could learn though, we could. Everyone would have their words though, I know they would. Her parents seemed like the type that would have something to say to me, we'd just have to see.
If anyone was thinking either that I was only marrying her for the baby, well, yes and no. But I didn't want to admit that our kid had anything to do with it. Why did John marry Abigail? Well, I'm assuming because of Jack. I didn't want that kind of mindset behind my thoughts when it came to the next chapter of my life. I knew I loved Selina in the purest form or else I would've never asked her to marry me. I hear a knock at my door now, a grin appearing on my face as Nathan opens the door slightly. "Okay, here I was expectin' you love birds still goin' at it." He jokes as he opens the door fully to look me over. "Wow... You do always clean up nice." Nathan had a top hat on, an opulent vest that was a nice shiny red, and his usual nice pants with a red undershirt. Where as me, I went for Arthur's hat, a traditional black vest, white undershirt and some black fancy pants. I felt rather nice to look this way, though I knew I'd remove the hat when we got to the actual church for this. No one would be present besides Nathan and the priest.
"Went and talked to the priest this mornin', said he would be happy to marry you two."
"Thanks Nathan, I wasn't sure how to go about the whole thing."
"Well, all I said was that my best partner was gonna be gettin' married and you guys wanted to do it in front of god and make it right. He was all excited cause marriage hasn't been happenin' all too much."I nod my head, which I could understand with everything going on in the world. I knew people probably couldn't find the time to really get married nowadays.
"Guess we should head out then?"
"Hold on... lemme... lemme get one last look at you as a single man."
Then he pulls out a camera and I just chuckle, "You doing this for Selina I'm assuming?"
"Yeah... She said she wanted to remember today. Showed me how to use this and everything. Now, smile all pretty like a gentleman should. No more of those ugly no smile looks like what was on our wanted posters."
I try to give my best smile, shit was hard when I wasn't laughing and thinking about something else. He got the picture though and I knew I wouldn't see it for a bit till Selina got them all made out for us.
"Alright brother, lets go get you married."We walk within the church just up the road from Blackwater, my parents are buried in this graveyard. Almost as if they could be here today if they really wanted to be. I still was having a hard time grasping that I was getting married today. Priest walks up to me with a grin as he's holding out my future wedding band to Nathan. "I'll have you, good sir, present this to me when I need you to."
Then he hands me the one for Selina. "I'm assuming she's small fingered, got her something small, seriously I'm so glad you guys chose me. This is going to be amazing. Someone will let me know when the bride is here."
And with that there was a ding and I knew exactly what it meant.
"Ohhhhh places everyone! It's time to marry this beautiful couple."We head to the end of the altar and someone begins to play the wedding music and next thing I see, is Selina in this beautiful ivory dress, it was actually quite tight and hugging that little bump of hers so well. Not short but short enough to where we could see those legs and it was almost silky. She looked so beautiful and it looks as though they gave her a little vail as well. I can almost feel the tears already coming as she's walking down the aisle to us. A shake of my head as I remove my hat and hand it over to Nathan. She was just breathtaking and I was so happy that I chose her of all people.
"Hello my beautiful future wife."
"And hello my handsome future husband."
The priest claps his hands together for the moment before opening the black book within his hand. "We are gathered here today..."
Trust me, I don't remember much. A lot of random things about god and everything in between before we finally got to the good part. I handed him Selina's wedding ring and Nathan gave him mine. He blesses them before handing them to the both of us and begins to have us say our vows.
"Asher Sanders, do you take Selina Hinton as your lawful wedded wife, to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better or for worse, for richer or for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and cherish until death do you part?"
I can only smile before I nod my head. "I do." With that he commands me to slip the ring upon her finger just above her engagement ring. He then turns to Selina.
"And do you, Selina Hinton, take Asher Sanders as your lawful wedded husband, to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better or for worse, for richer or for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and cherish until death do you part?"
She looks like she's about to cry now before she nods her head. "I do." And my ring is slipped upon my finger.
"Then by the power vested in me, in this state of West Elizabeth. I happily declare you husband and wife... You may now kiss your bride."
With no hesitation at all, our lips are connected and Nathan is clapping louder than I could've ever imagined. Yeah, I was sad that not a lot of good people could be here today, but I was happy I could finally call this girl my wife. We did exactly what everyone knew we was gonna do and I felt as though it was just coming along just as planned.Selina and I were now married.
The next chapter of our life, is only just beginning...
