REGULAR POV

I stiffened, awaiting the slash across my cheek. I promised myself I wouldn't flinch. Actually, I decided I would snap right back.

I knew I shouldn't stoop to his level, but I was in a bad mood and not only that but I was sick of his sucky attitude.

Moments passed and the sting never came. I opened my eyes, only to see him lower his hand and sigh, storming off.

"Stupid *sshole." I heard him curse as he disappeared into the trees.

BEN arched his eyebrow, looking genuinely surprised. "He really does have a soft spot for you, huh?" he chuckled.

"What do you mean? He's always a b*tch to me." I growled, leaning against the tree.

"If that were anyone else he would have ripped them to shreds." he replied, folding his arms as he leaned on the tree next to mine.

"I just wish he'd loosen up." I snorted, rolling my eyes, "I'm getting sick of his nonsense."

"You've definitely changed since you got here." BEN commented. That was true. I had changed, but mostly in the course of a couple days.

"Yeah well I honestly kinda lost a couple screws back in that facility." I answered. I heard Jeff slashing bark nearby, obviously releasing his anger.

"We're all insane here." BEN said, smirking. I could tell that much.

"You're just beginning to break." he continued, straightening up as Jeff trudged back to us.

A bead of sweat trickled down his forehead, and I could tell he was trying to scowl even though that was literally almost impossible for him.

"I'm leading the way back." he growled, eyeing me as if he dared me to say anything.

"Whatever." I responded with a sigh. He began to lead the way, BEN and I silently trailing behind.

When I first stepped foot in the mansion I was scared to death of Jeff. He could easily overpower me with his chilling appearance and rude attitude.

But now was different. I could tell that there was a side of him he wasn't showing me. There was this small part of me that knew he wasn't a threat, and that he simply wasn't going to harm me.

That was strange, because none of his actions implied any of the sort. But, so far, that small part of me seemed to be right. And judging by what BEN said about him having a 'soft spot' for me, that part of me would probably be right for a long time.
