It had been weeks since my mini argument with my brother and shockingly enough he hadn't stopped by my dorm room since then. I had tried explaining Ben's behavior to Grey the next day, but he said it wasn't a problem. He wasn't avoiding me which was unexpected because that was usually the effect my brothers had on any guy that came around.
Ben and Drew would scare off guys left and right, claiming that they "had a bad feeling". Yeah, sure they did.
However, I'm guessing Ben felt bad about what happened and that's why I ended up at a doughnut shop with Drew. He had texted me asking if I was finished with class. Then he picked me up from my dorm and here we are.
Now let me explain something. Yes, both of my brothers are protective of me, but Drew as I've said before is so much more understanding than Ben.
There are only a handful of times where Drew had to fix things between Ben and me. He didn't have to, but both Ben and I were the stubborn ones whereas Drew was the most docile.
Whenever he had to calm the situation, he would always take me to get doughnuts to convince me to try and see things from Ben's point of view.
It was like an unspoken tradition for us and damn if it didn't work every time.
After Drew paid for our half a dozen doughnuts, we went back to his car to eat them. I barely finished off my second doughnut before he voiced the topic I knew was coming.
He knew it too which is probably why he got straight to the point. "I understand why you're annoyed with Ben. He acted like an ass in front of the guy you like," he said.
I nearly choked on my bite of doughnut. I needed to get myself together; this was the second time I've almost choked on food because of someone's words.
I controlled my coughing fit and managed to swallow the bite. "Did Ben tell you I liked him? I never said—"
"Cass you didn't have to, it's obvious. And based on what Ben told me it's not that hard to figure out."
It wasn't a secret that I had a thing for Grey, but I also wasn't broadcasting it. Apparently, I was though.
Drew finished off his three doughnuts and sighed. "Listen, you know I'm doing my best to stay out of your life while you go through the ups and downs of college, but I do agree with Ben when it comes to guys. You already know we don't take too kindly to the guys that come around you, but I've convinced Ben to try and give you a break. Whether he'll listen to me is debatable though."
I closed the now empty doughnut box and placed it on the floor in front me. "You know as well as I do that he's not going to change. Nice try though," I said leaning back against my seat.
Drew reached over and gave my arm a squeeze. "I do what I can kid. Now, let's go so you can talk to Ben. I'm sick of hearing him bitch and whine about you."
I let out a laugh as Drew backed out of the parking lot and drove us to their apartment.
* * *
I got back to my dorm at around seven later that evening. After stopping by the apartment, both Ben and Drew dropped me back off at my dorm.
Ben and I had talked no screaming or yelling which I was grateful for. He also had agreed to giving me even more space than he already was; which might as well have been none let's be honest.
I had tried to ask him why he felt so much hostility towards Grey, but I never got an answer. Ben either changed the subject or just ignored me entirely. I just chalked it up to him being overprotective, nothing to worry about.
