I make it to Winchester in the morning. I tiredly walk toward my street, feeling happy when I see my house in view. I run to it, knocking on the door a few times.

No answer.

I then try the back door, still no answer, but unlocked. I walk inside the house. Hardly anything changed since I last left. “Dad?” I call, “It’s Christine.” Nothing.

Deciding to change into familiar clean clothes I dress into my own dark skinny jeans, and light blue top. It feels good to have a little piece of home on me. I go his bedroom after putting my hair up is a messy bun. Knocking I call, “Dad?” I crack the door a little. He isn’t in his room either. Frustrated that he isn’t home, I decide to go to Mrs. Giry’s house. She and Meg probably know where he is. I grab my leather jacket and run to their house.

After running three blocks I finally make it to their house. I knock hard on their front door. Thankfully, Meg answers.

“Christine, where on earth were you?” Meg asks, worriedly. I give her a look that means, “Get me inside now.” I hurry inside as she opens the door.

  “What happened to you?”

I take a deep breath. “You know that guy who kissed my hand at Mom’s funeral?” Meg nods. “Okay, well, he kidnapped me in my car, then kept me locked in his mansion for almost four weeks, and said that my father is dying, so I have to marry him cause’ my dad told him to.”

Meg looks at me like I’m insane. “What?”

This is going to take forever to explain to her. “To put things easier. Where’s Dad?”

“He’s at the hospital.” She says, softly. “ My Mom’s with him.”

“Oh, my.” I ask, somewhat panicking. “What happened?”

“I don’t know. The doctors won’t say unless a family member is present.” Meg shrugs.

I need to get to the hospital before Erik and Nadir find me. “Can I use your car?” I ask Meg.

“Yeah, only if you’re going to see your dad.” She answers, “I’m going with you.”

“Fine.” I say. She grabs her keys and purse. We drive off to the hospital.

“So, tell me again what happed to you.” She keeps her eyes on the road and her hands on the wheel while talking.

I take a deep breath. “The man with the mask at my Mom’s funeral kidnapped me after school. Well, he was nice and all, giving me everything a girl would want, but he told me that my father wanted him to marry me.” I explain to Meg. “Then I ran away yesterday morning.”

She has a hard time grasping what I’m saying. “Wow. That’s a lot.”

“No kidding. Creepy, right?” I give her a girly look.

“Yeah. Just wondering--” Meg doesn’t finish her sentence when suddenly her car flips on its side onto the side of the highway. I scream, unbuckling my seatbelt before hitting a tree. Then the car rolls once or twice. The last I see and hear before blacking out, is a black SUV driving away, and a person with a white mask holding my head, saying:

“Christine, I’m here.” Then I close my eyes.
