“WHAT?!” She screamed over the phone.
“Ouch! Bechay please naman don’t shout. Mababasag eardrums ko sa’yo niyan.” I just told her that I am extending my stay here in LA for another week. “I’ll be back a week before your wedding.”
“Pero Mimay naman. You know marami pang final details na kelangan asikasuhin. I need my bestfriend/maid-of-honor/cousin here!! Please come back na!” She pleaded.
“I’ll be there for your wedding Bechay. I wouldn’t miss it. I promise!” I sighed. “I just need this breather. One week lang to fix myself. Sige na Couz. I’ll be back in time for your bachelorette party. Ako kaya nag plan nun, syempre di pwedeng absent ako.”
“Hay naku Kimberly! Kung di ka lang talaga malakas sakin. Basta promise ha you’ll be back before my wedding.” Finally, she agreed. I knew she’ll understand why I need to do this.
“Basta Kimmy, when you come back I want to hear the whole story ha. You owe me a lot of details. Whatever happened with you and Xian, I know it affects him too.. Big time!”
What did she just say? Does she know? I haven’t told her. Although, she knows that I’m taking this breather because of him. Ano raw affected rin daw si Xian? Pero siya naman may gusto nito ah. He didn’t want me. He didn’t need me. Memories of that night hit me again.
“Xian, I love you!”
It took me all of me to finally admit it to him. I looked into his eyes as I said those three words, eight letters. I saw his eyes lit up with astonishment then in a flash it darkened with distress. I can’t read the expression on his face. I felt his arm stiffen around my waist. He shook his head as if throwing away all the thoughts entering his mind. Damn, what is running through his mind?
“Kim.. I can’t… I mean I don’t…” but before he could say anything else Mark cuts us off.
“Can I have my date back?” I pulled away from Xian’s arms. Mark gave Xian an icy stare. I glanced at Xian; he was giving Mark the same look. Oh boy this looks like trouble. I quickly interrupted their staring competition.
“Uhhm. Mark this is Xian. Xian Lim, the groom’s best man.” Mark extended his hand. “Xian si Mark Gonzales. He’s..”
