Xian quickly grabbed his files and laptop from his desk and went straight to the conference room. He has five minutes until the meeting with the board starts. Well, more like meeting with his father, the CEO. He entered the room, looked around and sat down. Buti na lang wala pa si dad. He thought and let out a sigh.
It was exactly eight am when his dad entered the room followed by his secretary. Mr. Danillo Lim, the president and CEO of their multi-million company.
“Good morning” His dad said as everybody stood up. “Please sit down.”
“Good morning president.” Everyone greeted him.
“ Xian?” Danillo looked at his son then back to the files in front of him. “Why did you call for a board meeting? What’s our agenda?”
“Sir, it’s about my temporary position in People”
“What about it?” his dad said.
“Ahhh, I’ve been filling up for the position Ate left and Dad, I mean Sir, the team already found someone suited for the position. He worked from top companies abroad. He used to be a free-lance writer but now based here in the Philippines. He already passed the initial interview..” he did not finish what he was saying for he was interrupted by his father.
“So what you’re saying is, you want to give your position to some stranger?” Danillo said in a very stern voice.
“It’s not like that Sir. But sir di ba from the start naman po we’ve talked about it. I took the job but it’s only temporary. Alam niyo naman po na this is not what I want to do. I only accepted it kasi its for Ate.”
“At anong gusto mong gawin? Yang photography na yan? Yang music mo? Xian! You didn’t study at Standford just so you could waste your time on those petty things.” His dad obviously not happy with where the conversation is going.
“But dad…”
“No Xian! If that’s all. Meeting adjourned!” his dad finally said in a firm voice and with that everyone left the room.
Xian felt the urge to release all the tension building inside him. He went directly to the place away from all the chaos happening. Ding. The elevator finally opened. SPACE! That’s what he needs at the moment. He went near the edge. He could see all of Makati from where he is standing. He took it in and then…
ARRRRGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! He shouted.
Dad, why can’t you listen to me? Bakit di niyo ako pwedeng pagbigyan? All my life you’ve been making the decision for me. It was never about me. It was always about you. Your Image! Your name! Your reputation! Paano naman ako? Yung pangarap ko. Yung kasiyahan ko. This is my life!
He was in the middle of his thoughts when his phone vibrated.
Read the message and went back to his office.
“Sir Xian, you have a meeting with the staff later at eleven and another at one.” His secretary said when he entered his office.
“Ok. Thank you!” He said. “And May sorry about the other night. I know it was late.”
“Ok lang po yun.” May was on her way out of the door. “Oh by the way Sir, it’s all on your table”
“Thank you so much May.” Xian’s face suddenly lit up.
May left the room but before she did, she took a glance at her boss. Wow, that really made him happy. She thought.
