Chapter 36

It was time to open presents and Stiles decided that yeah, maybe this wasn't the most efficient part of their planning. They tried having a system going but some of the kids were getting to antsy to wait so Stiles has been having them run gifts to people.

"Stiles, can I have another present?" Jade asks. "Wait, can I sit with you and help you sort them?"

"Do you want to? Because that would be amazing," Stiles responds, smiling at the little girl. She nods her head and sits down with him, grabbing a random present under the tree.

"Hey! This has my name on it!" Jade looks up at him. "Can I open it?"

"Yes you may. How bout you go open it next to your mommy so she can see what you got too?"

With that, Jade stands and runs to her mom's side, pointing excitedly at the present. Soon, Derek sits beside him, wrapping an arm around his waist.

"I really, really love you," Derek says, kissing Stiles' cheek. Stiles blushes, looking around to make sure none of the family was watching before he gives Derek a kiss on the lips.

"I really, really love you too," Stiles replies quietly, eyes studying his boyfriend who looks to be a little tipsy. "Someone had too much champagne."

"Mm, no I don't think so. Laura is spilling family secrets so maybe she had too much to drink."

"Oh? What kind of secrets?"

"The gossip kind."

Stiles smiles, grabbing Derek's hand that was resting in his lap. "Any gossip about you?"

Derek seems to think about this for a moment before smiling and shaking his head. "She has no dirt on me that I wouldn't have on her. But! Did you open your present yet?"

Stiles raises an eyebrow at Derek. "I think I opened all of them. Which one are you referring to?"

Derek shakes his head. "No, this one is really important. You would know if you opened it."

Stiles gives Derek a confused look as Derek stands up, examining the tree before pulling an envelope out from between the branches.

"I know you said nothing expensive, so here," Derek hands him the envelope. "Open it."

Stiles still has no idea what to think when he begins opening the envelope. Inside it, he sees a card and he pulls it out. The card has a cute design on the front and when Stiles opens it, two slips of paper drop out. Stiles looks at Derek before picking up the slips.

The slips were...plane tickets? To New York?!

"Derek!" Stiles jumps up and pulls Derek into a huge hug, wrapping his arms around his neck. "Why did you do that? Do you know how much plane tickets cost?"

"Of course I do, I bought them." Derek chuckles, placing a kiss on Stiles' neck. "I wanted to do something special with you and what better way than to explore New York?"

Stiles feels tears pool in his eyes as he pulls back to look at his boyfriend, immense love and happiness radiating off of him.

"I got you something too. You have to open it right now. Of course, it's not as special but..."

Derek shushes Stiles, pulling him in for another kiss. "Anything is special as long as it has to deal with you."

Stiles smiles at him before leaving his embrace and finding the present he had hidden under the tree. He pulls it out and hands it to Derek.

"Open it."

Derek rips the wrapping paper off to reveal a blank box. He gives Stiles an amused look before he opens the box, revealing a deep black leather jacket. Derek gasps quietly, dropping the box and the wrapping to the floor as he grabs the jacket.

"Stiles! These things are expensive." Derek holds the jacket out in front of him while Stiles laughs a little, rolling his eyes.

"I figured you needed a new one. Yours is looking a little...torn up." Stiles watches as Derek examines the outside of the jacket with amazement. "Try it on. I want to see how it fits."

Derek puts the jacket on, the jacket fitting perfectly for his body. Derek moves around a bit before stuffing his hands in his pocket. He gives Stiles a confused look as he grabs the piece of paper in there, almost pulling it out before Stiles shakes his head.

"That's for later. You have to save some surprises for home." Stiles smiles. Derek is about to say something to him but he gets interrupted by someone.

"Hey lovebirds! Care to join the rest of the party?" Laura says from across the room, holding a microphone in her hands. "Let's get this karaoke started!"

"Oh god."

"We have to go sing."

"I don't sing and I don't dance."

"I know you can." Stiles laughs at his own joke, pulling Derek towards the stage. "Please?"

"Only for you. And only one song."

"Fine but I'm making you dance then."

Stiles ended up picking I Wanna Dance With Somebody by Whitney Houston. Everyone was singing along with them as the two sang loudly off key and danced around the stage.

"I wanna dance with somebody! I wanna feel the heat with somebody!"
