I looked out the window and a gulped. Shit, what was I going to say?

“Addie, get to explaining?”

Uh...

“Can we wait until you stop driving so I can tell you?”

Oh, please don’t hate me Nick.

“Fine, we’re going to the park, nobody will be there since it’s almost dark,” he says and I thank goodness for that because I didn’t want him to see my face when I told him. I can’t believe I had agreed to tell him! What’s he going to think of me?

I nodded and looked out the window for the five minutes until he parks in the parking lot. We get out and walk over to the bench. Nobody’s here, just like he said so.

“Okay, get talking.”

Deep breaths, Addie, you can do this.

“Okay, first, you know when your parents separated for a few months and were about to get a divorce?” I was nervous, my hands were shaking, I’m just glad this was Nick and not Morgan.

“Yeah, of course I do. Morgan told you about that?”

I shook my head. “Did your father tell you he was seeing anyone then?”

“Yeah, but so was mom, where are you going with this?” he looked confused, I didn’t’ blame him.

“I was that girl.”

“Huh?”

“Can I explain this all and then you say something afterwards?” he nodded and I continued.

“Well, see, I was sixteen and got an intern job for my finance class when I was a sophomore, but it didn’t start until later that summer, right before junior year, anyways, I became an intern at your father’s bank.” I gulped and looked at Nick. He was expressionless.

“At first it was nothing. Just me helping with clients, fetching coffee, that sort of stuff, then one day he had me stay late after everyone else had left. He talked to me for like four hours, just talked, nothing else. He made me feel so special, my boyfriend at the time, Darren, hadn’t talked to me like that in such a long time and I loved the attention I was getting. It progressed. Days, weeks, months went by. He became very controlling though. Always demanding and rude, but he’d then praise me and manipulate me into saying and doing things that I wanted,” I took a deep breath. I can’t believe I was finally lying this all out on the table! And to his son! Who happens to be just two months older than I!

“My boyfriend finally found out after about four months, he walked in on us, well, yeah and it stopped then. I quit the intern and stopped seeing him. My boyfriend knew everything, I told him everything. I realized how awful your father actually did treat me, he didn’t treat me as his lover, as he called me, he treated me like his bitch. He always was telling me how he was never going to get back with his wife, which obviously was a lie. But, anyways, like I said, I stopped seeing him and cut off all contact, he didn’t like that, but he never reached out to me. Then, a few weeks ago when I first had dinner at your parents I saw him there and everything just came back. It was awful, seeing him again and back with your mom, it killed me. He grabbed my ass that night and I was just so stunned, I mean how dare he! His son was just in the other room.”

I was almost panting. I was out of breath.

Nick scooted closer to me on the bench and rubbed my back. “Finish, princess,” I smiled. He called me by his nickname he had for me.
