We both turned our heads and saw a very expressionless Morgan. Oh, my, God. I wonder what the hell is running through his mind. He took a step back when I stood up from kneeling down to go near him.

“Morgan…” I didn’t know what to say. Is it his? Is it Nick’s? Hell, is it someone else’s?

“No, Addie, don’t touch me right now,” he said in his very stern, teacher voice when I went up to him to console him. I know this is going to kill him.

“Whose is it?” he asked not looking at Nick and Nick not looking at him.

It was a whisper but we all heard it. “Mine… she’s not far enough along for it to be yours,” That means she’s like six or seven weeks because her and Morgan happened back in September and it was near the end of November. Morgan is not going to handle this well, I already know it.

I was still looking at him so I could tell what he was thinking; nothing. His face was blank and had no emotions in it. He just stood in the doorway of the bathroom not doing anything. He turned around and punched the wall. Oh, yeah, that’s more of the reaction I had been expecting. He muttered something under his breath.

“Babe, are you okay?”

“Addie, don’t talk to me right now.” I could feel the tears welling up in my eyes but I know now that this is going to be something hard for him in his life. Why did she have to go and get pregnant now? Ugh. I wanted to scream and be there so badly for Morgan but he just wasn’t going to let me.

I nodded and stepped back.

“Morgan, I’m so sorry,” Nick said wiping off his mouth and stood up.

“Don’t fucking talk to me you drunk bastard,” I wanted to yell at him for talking to Nick that way but I know that would just get us in an argument. It’s not like Nick made this happen on purpose or anything.

We all heard the front door open from downstairs and we heard Lauren go into the kitchen. Morgan ran down the steps and we all followed.

“Lauren!” Morgan yelled when we got into the kitchen. She was unpacking the groceries and then turned around when she saw all of us.

“Morgan? What the hell are you doing here?” she didn’t really make it sound rude or mean, she just seemed, shocked.

“Are you pregnant?”

She dropped the eggs and her mouth gaped open. Her eyes started watering and I just saw her crumble. Who knew Lauren had a heart? Morgan did, he told me she did. This was almost too much to watch. I knew how bad he wanted another baby after Mackenzie.

“I’m so sorry, Morgan.”

He walked over and picked up the eggs she dropped. There was a mess all over. I didn’t know what to do. It felt so damn awkward being here. I looked over and saw Nick leaving, I followed him. Morgan didn’t seem like he really wanted me at the moment. And that hurt, but I just have to understand that this is something that he’s going to be going through for quite a while.

“Nick, hold on,” I said as we walked outside onto the sidewalk.

“Addie, Morgan’s going to kill me,” Nick looked so scared. I don’t know if it’s more because of Morgan or because of the baby.
