“Wait, Addie, come back!” Morgan yelled as I ran to the parking lot. I can’t believe Chalice and Darren! Why the hell would they put me on a date with him? They knew how much I wanted space and how I needed it, but no, they ignored it and put me in an awkward situation where I am going to have to turn him down again.

Morgan caught up and grabbed my arm. “Addie, wait.”

“No, Morgan! I will not wait! Why the hell are you here?”

“Because Chalice and Darren asked me to.”

“So? Just because they asked you to doesn’t mean you had to! You could’ve told them no because you wanted to respect that I needed space. But guess what you didn’t. And now I’m pissed. Before I was more upset about this whole situation, but now I’m livid.” We were standing in the parking lot and I was yelling and he wasn’t, he was just being extremely calm. Finally when I stopped yelling I notice it was freezing and the little leather jacket I had wasn’t doing its job to keep me warm.

“Addie, I am so sorry. I just wanted you back and I had to do something.”

“Something? A dinner isn’t something; it’s putting me in an awkward place. I would’ve come to you when I was ready and then if you still wanted me then we’d work on it together, but I wasn’t ready and I don’t think I’ll ever be now!” He looked so hurt and I felt bad for yelling at him but he just didn’t understand. And now I don’t think he ever will.

“Please hear me out Addie,” I tapped my shoe and waited for him to continue.

“I love you, Addie. More than I have ever loved anyone and more than I will ever love anyone else. I can’t imagine my life without you,” holy fuck he was now getting on his knee. No. he better as hell not be doing what is going through my mind. “These past two and half weeks have been so hard. I want to have you in my life; no I need you in my life. Please Addie, please marry me and be a part of my life for the rest of your days,” oh was he serious? He could not be serious! That was so cheesy! Wait, I shouldn’t be mean, he just proposed! But for some reason it just made me mad, but I was going to swallow that feeling and calm down.

I felt tears welling up in my eyes but they weren’t happy tears. I looked down and saw Morgan, he was smiling and I was about to break his heart. I felt bad but the fact that he kept coming and coming back made me realize something. We need to be apart indefinitely.

“No,” he stood up then and looked hurt. Oh, God, I didn’t want to hurt him.

“No?”

“No, Morgan, I, uh,” I could feel everyone in the parking lot staring at us, I wanted to tell them to get in their cars and leave or to go inside but I didn’t. “I can’t be with you, not now or ever, I think. I want us to be officially over. Not just a break.”

“But, Addie..” I cut him off before he could finish what he might have said.

“No, Morgan, no buts, I don’t want a relationship and I sure as hell don’t want a marriage! I’m only eighteen! Why would you ask me something like that?”
