Marcus and Beau sat watching the Slytherin team practise for their first match of the season against Hufflepuff. Teddy was nowhere in sight because Blake and Gabby forbid him to watch their practise if it was Slytherin vs Hufflepuff. Marcus was a quiet Gryffindor boy who got his head down during classes, did extra homework and went into mute mode whenever he got below 'excellent' in any of his tests. He seemed to most other students a future success, but he was far from being that snobby (even if he did think it himself from time to time), and at this moment on that day he could tell something was up with Beau Weasley.
"You're quiet." Marcus stated as he continued to write and bustle about his Transfiguration homework.
Beau smiled. "No I'm not."
"It wasn't a question." Marcus said, igniting the silence between them once again. "Are you bothered that Lucas isn't going to Hogsmeade next week?"
"No."
"Behind on your Potions essay?"
"Didn't know we had one."
"Did the twins set off another stink bomb in the Hall whilst you were eating breakfast?"
"They'd be dead by now."
"Are you heading to London next week for your mum's trial?"
"Yes but it's stupid because she hasn't done anything wrong, I bet it's just another bloody stunt from Zabini to try and make her slip up. I mean come on, she's not like my Grandad and even he wasn't a murderer, I don't think Dad is helping either because when I owled my Gran yesterday she said he keeps sending her 'good luck' cards. Apparently they've kept a smile on her face but Merlin knows how many more days my mum can stand living under the same roof as that man."
Marcus sat back and stared at her, eyes wide. "It's that then?"
Beau took a deep breath in. "Mhm."
Marcus closed his book abruptly and turned his full body to her. "Beau, your mum is a good woman." He told her, grabbing her full attention. "Think about all those people she heals, all the people that trust her and -"
Suddenly, Marcus stopped and looked up with his thinking face on. Beau watched him and widened her eyes as she wondered what he was doing. "Marcus, you good?"
"Beau, what if we prove that she's innocent?" Marcus snapped his head back to his best friend and she looked at him alarmingly.
"How?"
"We look into the case; we solve it."
Beau paused, and then started to laugh. "You're joking Marcus, we couldn't." She started to gather her books together and stood up to leave.
"No, Beau wait!" Marcus started to gather his books as well but had way too many to keep up with her, so by the time he was leaving she was already gone.

Beau was sat in the Great Hall eating her lunch, alone. She continued to stare down at the newspaper that had her mum's name and picture all over it.
"Hey, you alright?" Jolene sat herself opposite and rested her chin in her hands.
Beau imitated her, smiling sweetly. "You didn't tell me you were Lucas' cousin."
"I didn't think it mattered."
"He's cute."
"Awe." Jolene smiled again and then saw the newspaper underneath Beau's elbow. "Is this bothering you?"
Beau sighed. "Yup, I guess."
Jolene placed her hand on her friend's shoulder. "It's going to be okay, Beau. I promise." She told her just as Marcus came sprinting towards them.
"Beau, you're gonna hate me, but I did it." Marcus said, sliding down the bench and diving into his satchel as Beau leaned back and placed her hand on her chest, wondering what the hell he was on about.
"Did what, Marcus?" Beau asked knowing far too well she wouldn't get a reply. "Please tell me you didn't throw eighty paper planes off of Gryffindor Tower again to see how far they'd go."
Marcus shook his head and took out a piece of paper that said 'CONTINUING INVESTIGATION' across the top. "Your mum didn't murder that muggle."
"Marcus."
"No, seriously look." Marcus read through the paper, holding his finger against it. "It says that the murder had all the signs and implications of an obscurus."
Beau crinkled her forehead and took the paper from his hands. "Marcus, we could do this!" She exclaimed.
"Do what?"
"Prove that she's innocent."
"But, wouldn't it be dangerous?" Jolene asked them both.
"Well, yeah, of course but it's nothing that we haven't done before apart from the fact it's a homocide." Marcus smiled at the two girls. "We can do it though."
Beau was about to reply as she spotted Gabby in the doorway. "We'll talk later, thank you so much Marcus!" She stood up and kissed his forehead as she ran towards the door. She planned to tell Gabby all about it on the way to Hogsmeade.
