Beau often thought about how much she appreciated Gabrielle Wood. They were two girls surrounded by boys at their school and in their social group, not that either of them minded. Beau could remember the day Gabby and Blake started dating, she had felt abandoned that day. Their two hour dates started to feel like years but Gabby reassured Beau that she would never leave her.
"You're going to London next week then?" Gabby asked Beau, both girls had their hands buried deep into their pockets as they wandered down to Hogsmeade.
Beau only replied with; "I guess so."
"Well, I'm coming with you." Gabby stated. Beau scoffed and then turned to see Gabby smiling. "What? I am."
"Gabby, no." Beau said plainly turning away and continued to walk down the path.
Gabby sighed before running back up behind her and grabbing her shoulder. "Beau, listen, you're my best friend and your mum is as good as mine. So I'm coming, you can't push me away when you need me the most."
"Awe, Gabs, I love it when you get 'best friend' syndrome." Beau laughed and gave her a hug as Blake and Teddy walked past.
"Yeah, wish she'd get 'boyfriend' syndrome every once in a while." Blake muttered as Teddy bent down to hear him clearly.
"Oi, sod off you two!" Beau blew a raspberry at Teddy as Blake walked up to his girlfriend and wrapped his arm round her waist. "Where's Marcus?"
"Changed his mind, in the library studying." Teddy explained.
They all carried on walking before entering the Three Broomsticks. Blake and Teddy went to get the girls butterbeers as they found a comfy table in the corner. Gabrielle looked around and people watched for a while before grabbing Beau's wrist and pointing to the window. "Is that Jolene?"
Beau squinted at the window and saw the faint figure of Jolene through the frosty glass pane. It was definitely her, and Beau felt disappointed at her. The girl who she'd invited in as her friend had straight up lied to her face, this was not on. Beau grabbed her coat and stood up as Gabby copied her.
Blake caught sight of them leaving in the corner of his eye. "Teddy, Teddy!" He tapped his friend's shoulder abruptly and pointed to the door.
Teddy's eyes widened. "Cancel that order." He quickly muttered to the barman before following the girls out of the door.
"Beau!"
"Gabs!"
"What?"
Teddy stopped in front of the girls who looked up at him with their dark eyes. "Where the Merlin are you going?" He asked, hands on hips.
Beau pushed him aside. "Jolene, she told me she wasn't coming into Hogsmeade because her Uncle wouldn't let her but she's gone down that alleyway-"
"We're going to follow her!" Gabby intruded, bouncing up and down slightly as if she was about to fight someone. "See what she's up to."
"I never said she was up to something." Beau said as Blake stepped slowly down the alleyway carefully. "I only said it was strange."
"Guys." Blake whispered. "Come on." He beckoned as Beau followed him with Gabby on her tail. Teddy stood in the street and watched as they left him.
"Guys, seriously." Teddy flailed his arms. "We could get caught."
"By who? Slughorn?" Beau turned around and shot at him. "For pity's sake Ted, come on!"
They trudged along the icy floor as Blake cast 'lumos' up front. As the four of them walked in silence, Beau couldn't help but think something was off. She'd always been a good judge of character and Jolene seemed like the nicest person, but then she'd lied and had spun Beau right off the track.
Blake stopped.
"What is it?" Gabby asked, putting her hand on his shoulder as the four of them looked into the tiny courtyard Jolene had stopped in.
"She's with someone." Blake whispered. He tried to get a better look at who the person was but he couldn't make out their face.
"Can you hear them?" Teddy was not a good whisperer.
Beau rolled her eyes right round in their sockets. "Maybe if you shut up, we'd be able to." Just then, the other person turned around. "Lucas?!"
Beau had been a bit too loud as Lucas and Jolene's heads snapped towards their direction. "Run!" Blake turned and they all started to bolt up the alleyway, the two new students got on their heels. When they reached the opening from where they'd originally come from, they saw Marcus walking with his hands in his pockets and his red tartan scarf on.
"Marcus!" The four of them chorused as they went to join him, Marcus looked startled but went along with it after knowing no different from his friends for five very long years.
"What's going on?" He bent down to ask Beau as Jolene and Lucas appeared.
"I'll tell you later." She covered her speech with a cough as Gabby 'clocked' Jolene.
"Jo!" Gabby was a good actress, she could always make things seem legit. She'd had two years of lying about her boyfriend being a hardcore Gryffindor just to impress her dad and it wasn't easy trying to fool Oliver Wood. "Didn't think you were allowed into Hogsmeade."
Jolene walked straight up to the five of them confidently, obviously she was no stranger to the game Gabby was playing either. Lucas stayed behind his cousin. "We snuck out, decided we couldn't miss out on all the fun."
"Not much going on to be honest." Blake added. "Unless you want to shop for quidditch supplies with us."
"No, I think we'll just have a wander back to the castle, we have some stuff to chat about. Family crisis." Jolene was straight up lying to their faces and Beau was not going to be fooled.
Lucas walked past and grabbed Beau's arm, his warm blue eyes surprising her. "I need to talk to you tomorrow, at breakfast?" He asked as Marcus glared daggers into him.
"Yeah, that'd be great." Beau replied with a beaming smile drawn across her face. Okay, so maybe she was going to allow herself to be fooled for a while.
