"Thief" Ansel Elgort

life in Queens for some was nice. buzzing around town without a care in the world, just trying to get from one place to another. at most, their only problems might be avoiding pick-pockets or knowing which restaurants serve salmonella as a side dish. for a 15 year old girl like Joey, life was much more complicated.

it wasn't like she ever planned for her life to turn out the way it had at such a young age, but she was quiet well versed at adapting to change and she managed to figure out who to survive for not just herself, but for her family. surviving was a challenge for her family and she was determined to make sure what was left of her family remained around for as long as she could control.

that was why she got into thievery.

she started out as only a pick-pocket, but as time went on she knew that would only keep her family afloat for so long. there were only so many bracelets and watches in the city that could be pawned off so she had to think bigger, riskier. that was why she was in the middle of a Gucci store at such late hours.

the first few times she started actual robberies, she came close to being caught. on multiple occasions she could have been locked up and separated from her family. but as time went on, she had mastered the art of sneaking in and out of places with high level security. she may not have been in school anymore, but she was smart for her age, smarter than most. a tech genius. she was the top of her class at a great school before and had dreams of one day working for stark industries. but like always does, she was thrown curve ball after curve ball and couldn't fit school into her long lost of priorities, so it simply wasn't one any longer. she took online classes online whenever she could find a spare minute, but that was very rarely.

nights like tonight required preparation. that left little room for other activities. tonight was the night for yet another hist and she was ready for all scenarios, including the new web-slinger that started making an appearance around town.

after bypassing the security systems of the store, the girl quickly made a move for one of the nicer handbags and slipped out without causing a disturbance to the rest of the building. she was only a few hundred short of her target and once she pawned off the bag she would have all the money she needed to pay the medical bills.

as she sneaked out of the store, she traveled down a dark ally, black hood over her head in case of any security cameras that might have recently been put up that might be unaccounted for in her note. she highly doubted there would be, but she was always careful, never adding more risk than necessary.

before she could climb over the fence that blocked off the other side of the ally, a swishing sound moved through the air. she knew who it was, she had anticipated this exact moment playing out, and she was prepared for what was to come next.

"that doesn't belong to you, pal!" a male voice shouted from behind as a web-like fluid encased her left hand against the fence, leaving the other free so the super hero could reclaim the purse slung over her shoulder. "not to be rude or anything, but i don't really think that bag matches your outfit." he quipped as the sound of footsteps got louder.

she remained silent. her eyes glanced over to the boxes that had a hidden pocket knife within, and she waited for him to get close enough to use it. she wasn't going to stab him or anything like that, she would wait for him to get close enough, disorient him, then cut herself free and take off before he could follow.

"hey, im talking to you, man! the polite thing to do is respond." thats when she felt his hand on her shoulder in attempt to turn her around to face him. her hood fell from her head from the force and she he could finally see her face. his suit's eyes widened in surprise, she was not at all what he was expecting. "you're..." he trailed off, trying to understand what he was seeing.
