"Complicated" Avril Lavigne
although she agreed with her manager to cut back on her hours at work, Joey was able to convince Simone to let her finish off her final shift for the week. much to her dismay, she only agreed because changing the schedule last minute would cause resentment and confusion for all the other workers. this was the argument Joey used at least to convince Simone.
Joey had only been working for a couple hours by the time a familiar face walked into Lorenzo's pizza. Joey was too busy to notice her friend's presence because she was serving one of her tables, but when his voice called out her name, she beamed at the sight.
"Neddy!" she grinned, making her way over to the booth he sat himself at. "what brings you back so soon?" she questioned as she leaned against the table, flexing her ankles. she had yet to sit down the entire day and her feet were getting sort as per usual.
"just came by to say hey before i leave for the academic decathlon." he shrugged, but she could tell how excited he was to go to DC. "thought i might come by to remind you so you could watch. it's gonna be on TV!"
"that's right. Ned, i'm so happy for you. DC seems like such a cool place to go. well i promise i'll be watching." Joey pushed herself off the table and pulled out her notepad to jot down her friend's order. "so, a small meat lover's pizza?" she asked as she refocused on her job.
"actually make that a medium. my friend is meeting me here in a few minutes." he informed. Ned had never invited over a friend to Lorenzo's before, usually it was just the Leeds family or just him alone. Joey hid her shock however with a nod.
"coming right up."
while Joey ran around the room delivering pizzas to different people, the front door swung open and a certain boy in one of his science shirts. he hurried to the opposite side of the booth from his best friend, leaning in close to boy so keep their conversation secret.
"ned, did we really have to meet here? i've got people to save and villains to track, remember?" he complained. peter's knee bounced up and down, as he grew antsy to get back to hero saving. currently, he was tracking arms dealers that had stolen and used alien tech for weapons. as much as he would love to just sit with Ned for a while and eat pizza, he didn't have that kind of luxury. "i need to get out there and find those guys before they cause more trouble."
"come on, peter. we never just hang out anymore, but now that i know your secret we can track down those guys together while still getting to eat pizza." he argued, trying to convince Peter to relax of once. "besides, there's no point in trying to track anyone down when you don't even know where they're going. you just gotta wait it out until they stop."
"okay, but that doesn't mean there isn't crime on the streets that i could be stopping right now." he continued to protest. he shook his head and reached for Ned's glass of water, hoping the cold drink might calm his nerves. "i wanna hang out Ned, i do, but we're in New York and someone is always in trouble here."
when foot steps began to approach, Peter quickly leaned back into his seat, keeping his eyes low as if he were never talking about fighting crime. Joey was carrying a medium pizza as well as a soft drink Ned usually ordered, but forgotten to mention before. "here ya go." she spoke as she placed the hot dish between the two boys.
"Joey, good!" her friend exclaimed. Peter finally lifted his head to see who Ned was talking to, the air in his lungs getting sucked out of his body. his eyes grew wide as his jaw fell to the floor. he tried reaching for the glass of water to re-hydrate his dried up throat, but he found himself unable to move. the last person he ever expected to see serving him pizza was his Robin Hood, let alone the fact that this mysterious girl seemed to be on a first name basis with his best friend. "i want you to meet Peter. He goes to Mid Town with me." he grinned.
