"Skinny love" birdy

By the time visiting hours were over, the boys and Joey started walking through the streets. by now the sun had set completely and lights had turned on to illuminate the empty streets. there was a small breeze making Joey's long hair blow back.

The three had not stopped talking since the moment they left the hospital and the girl was surprised that she was enjoying every second of it. while they were still at the hospital, Peter had tracked the arms dealers to Maryland and decided to go to the decathlon. while they walked, Joey realized that Peter might be going on the trip too and asked him about it. unfortunately before they could dive deeper into their conversation about the competition, they were nearing the point in their journey where they would have to part ways. Joey lived only a few more blocks down, but Ned would have to go in the opposite direction as her.

"I had fun tonight. I'm glad you could come with me before you leave tomorrow." she tells Ned while hugging him good bye. then she turned to Peter who had his hands tucked into his pockets and tried averting his eyes. "surprisingly, I'm really glad you came too." Peter's head snapped up at her kind words and he felt reassured that she enjoyed his company. "I should get going, but I'll be sure to watch you two win."

"wait." before Joey could begin walking off, Peter had stopped her. both her and Ned gave him a puzzled look. "I don't think it's very safe for you to walk home alone this late." Peter wanted to make sure the girl was safe, yes, but he told himself that he needed to keep a close eye on her. he didn't want her trying to steal anything on her way home and he was going to make sure she didn't. but he wanted to walk with her as Peter Parker, not Spiderman. "I live that way too, I can walk with you."

Joey appreciated the gesture, she really did, but she felt uncomfortable with the idea of this boy knowing where she lived. It wasn't that she embarrassed about where she lived, okay she was a little bit, but she wasn't sure how she felt about a boy she had only met that day knowing where she lived and slept. he seemed harmless, but so did she to most people.

"I don't know, it's getting late and I don't want to get in trouble. I'll be fine, don't worry." she tried to reject his offer politely and added a small smile for affect.

"but I do worry." Peter blurted. he blushed slightly when he realized what he just said to her and how it must have sounded. "I mean, um, New York isn't safe at night for anyone and I don't want you to get into any trouble." he recovered. Ned stared at his friend as he tried to figure out what was going on. Joey on the other hand knew that he wouldn't stop until he got his way. with a sigh of defeat she nodded.

"Okay." she turned back to Ned and offered a small wave. "I'll see you later."

"text me when you get home." with that, their friend began walking home, glancing back one last time with curiosity.

"Lets go then?" Joey asked as she began leading the way. Peter knew most of the way to get to her house after following her the last night they met, but he didn't know which building she was in since he was called away for other hero saving duties.

"yeah-oh!" Peter exclaimed, startling the girl. she gave him a questioning look, but instead of answering her about his outburst, he dug out his phone from his pocket. he unwrapped the headphones that was always secured around it. he scrolled through his device, searching for something to show Joey. when he finally found what he was looking for, he offered her one of the earbuds with a grin. she furrowed her brows, but accepted it regardless. "earlier you said you liked lostboycrow so I thought maybe we could listen."

this made her copy his expression as a wave of relief washed over her. she had worried that without Ned as a buffer, her and Peter would be forced to walk in an awkward silence. now with music involved, even if they didn't talk, there wouldn't be an awkward silence. she had to give the boy credit, he was well adapted to avoiding uncomfortable situations before they could even happen.
