Chapter 10

Kimberly’s POV

My heart raced as I quietly opened the door. I opened the door a little bit more feeling reassured nothing was out there. I scanned the area down below the patio.

Heavily wooded forest. Perfect. A small smile tugged at my lips, a blush creeping along my face at the mere thought of Onyx. I love him so much.

I looked side to side, searching for any other weres that might find me. I couldn’t find not one, to my relief. I sniffed the air, smelling for any one that might be waiting for me. I smelled pine cone, leafs, dead trees, and a small hint of rain. I shrugged my shoulders, a hoped the small wooden guard rail. Finally.

I looked around once more, the fear eating away at my pride. I saw a large tree to the left, followed by many more trees, the faint trickling of a small stream, and my own low breathing. I started creeping forward, towards freedom. I put my feet down carefully, not wanting to alert anyone. I moved a small branch out of my way, and took off running. I shifted momentarily, my wolf loving the feel of the wind, and the smell of trees and, well, air. I sped through a small clearing, and onward. My wolf was leading the way, as if she had grown up here. Why did my wolf recognize this area?

I stopped in front of the stream, my throat burning. I bent over and drank some of the ice cold water, my drink filling the area with a small “Luop.”

I stood strait, and listened carefully. Nothing seemed out of place. The smell of deer and the distant smell of bear filling my nose. I couldn’t hear anything above the small gurgling of the stream. I shrugged it off, and raced on through the dense forest. Trees blurred as I ran past them, my heart rate picking up at the thought to finally be free.

A small yip filled my ears as I skidded around a corner, my paws thrumming on the floor.

What the hell?

I stopped dead in my tracks.

I craned my neck around, searching for the source.

I spotted a small wolf about 200 yards to the north of me, staring.

I squinted my eyes, trying to get a better look. Who was that? It was most defiantly a were wolf, not a regular wolf. I think it’s a female… no it’s a male… you know what, I’m not quite sure.

I squared my shoulders, and rose to my full height, trying to look intimidating. A small growl escaped lips as I bared my teeth. I took a threatening step forward, my eyes narrowing on the light sandy colored wolf. Its brown eyes were sparkling with a look of deep thought. Was it someone from Chase’s pack?

Or worse.

I lowered myself to the ground, in a battle stance. A second warning growl escaped my lips as I took a glided forward 10 feet.

The wolf still stood still, staring at me with those same, big brown eyes. I narrowed my eyes slightly, and let out one last warning growl, taking a few more large intimidating steps forward. I was now less than 50 yards from this strange wolf. I could now see it more clearly. A deep scar ran from its flank to its furry elbow, and one of its paws was white.

He didn’t back down. Now it was time to teach him who’s the boss around here.

I charged him. He didn't even flinch.

He quickly stepped to the side dodging my move as I spun around anticipating his move.

He didn't move to attack me. instead, he looked at me, trying to study every detail of me.

I stared at him, wide eyed as I realized who it was.

It was him.

It was HIM.
