I smiled widely at Kelly when I realized he was saving me from Erik, now it wouldn't feel so coupley and weird. With that thought I gave him a friendly noogie. "I'm so happy your coming with!"
He looking surprised before smiling flirtatiously. "I didn't realize how much you wanted the Kel man!" He exclaimed using his nickname for himself. "Come on babe you can sit next to me." I rolled my eyes but didn't deny his false accusation.
"Oh great." Erik muttered as Kelly opened the passenger door for me.
"Thank you sir!" I giggled giddily before hopping in.
"The rest of you can sit in the back!" Kelly ordered whilst climbing in his side. "I'll drive."
Seeing no way out both the guys started grabbing bags and throwing them in the van. "Do you guys need any help?" Kelly asked just as they finished.
Rebecca snorted as Ben rolled his eyes.
"You know what?" Becca questioned after Ben and Erik got in on either side of her.
"What?" I asked genuinely curious.
"This is going to be the best trip ever!" I chuckled at her enthusiasm as Ben scoffed.
"You haven't seen the 'Kel man' drive yet have you?"
"No...?" She said now worried.
"Okay just because I have a graveyard behind my house full of garden gnomes and broken mailboxes doesn't mean I'm a bad driver." Kelly defended before speedily backing out of the driveway without even glancing in the rear view mirror.
Graveyard.
Maddy.
I squeezed my eyes shut for a full 5 seconds to stop the onslaught of memories threatening to surface. When I opened them again my eyes met with another pair of brown eyes in the rear view mirror. He didn't smile or make any facial expression really, he just looked at me. Erik understood my pain, he knew how to make me feel special and loved, I needed him. Feeling my defenses start to diminish I had to remind myself that he hurt me. He stomped on the love I had for him leaving my heart a broken mess.
Remembering this, my face covered with the all too familiar mask of indifference. His face contorted in pain before we simultaneously broke eye contact. I knew I'd never be able to regain my complete and utter outward indifference though. Nor did I want to. I stopped that act long ago and vowed never to return to it.
"Hey Kelly?"
"Yeah?" He replied looking at me from the corner of his eye.
"I need to stop by a friends place, he lives around the corner at those new apartments."
"No problem." He said taking a sharp right turn earning him several cuss words and threats from Ben and Becca. Erik was mostly silent probably knowing I was barely tolerating him as it is.
"We'll wait." Kelly informed me as he pulled to a stop in front of the building.
"That's okay, it might be awhile so I'll just catch up with you guys at the restaurant later." I smiled kindly at him.
"Ohhh I see how it is." He said with a knowing smirk. "But how will you catch up."
"I just will, later guys." I said vaguely trying not to prolong the conversation. Without giving him a chance to reply I climbed out and ran inside. Once I was to Wyatts room I pulled the key from under the mat and came inside without bothering to knock. I knew he wouldn't mind because he didn't have a girlfriend at the time.
"Wyatt?" I called out closing the door behind me. "Where are you?" I stepped into the living room and was shocked to see him lounging on the couch with a neatly packed duffel bag to his right.
"The red or blue swim trunks?" He asked with a mischievous smile.
"What's all this?" I asked completely disregarding his question.
"If you answer my question I'll answer yours."
"Fine, blue because it makes your green eyes stand out. Your turn."
"Okay; this is all stuff."
"I know that! What I mean't is why are you packing it?!" He smiled knowing all along what I meant, it was just another one of his games.
"I'm going on a road trip with a good friend of mine. Perhaps you know her, blue eyes, red hair, used to be mute?"
"What the hell? I never invited you!"
"But you said you'd miss me and that you need me as a friend! I'm just saving you from having to live without me." He smiled widely. "And I have another reason for going...."
"What's your other reason?" I asked crossly.
He stood up quickly and came toward me before getting on one knee and taking my hand in his. "Because I don't want to spend one day apart! I want you to be my girlfriend!"
No.
Freaking.
Way.
