My whole world was spinning. I felt like I was going to pass out and hurl at the same time. He wouldn't ever leave me alone. My past was coming back to haunt me yet again. I felt so helpless, like a little child.
"Victoria?" Rebecca shook my arm, her face pale and her voice was oddly calm. "We need to go... He's probably nearby."
Her warning sent a jolt through my body and I lurched onto the concrete. I could feel him watching me, it made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. He should've been caught but like always he got away.
Tears were streaming down my face as I finished vomiting. Rebecca stood ridgid beside me and I knew she would stick by my side. I had to get myself together, every second I spent being scared I was putting her in danger.
"Victoria, please. Let's go." I looked at her and nodded slowly. My body was so drained, it took effort to even open the van door. As she drove down the road the feeling of being watched didn't get any better. His eyes were everywhere, all around us.
"I'll never be safe again." I sobbed quietly and turned away from her. I didn't want Becca to see how broken I was. We both thought I was fixed now but the note showed me I never would be.
"You will be." I glanced at her in time to see her hands tighten around the steering wheel until her knuckles turned white. Even Becca didn't even believe I would be safe. Turning back to the window I felt helpless.
Once we were parked at the campsite she killed the engine. We sat there in silence for a long time until Kelly swung open Beccas door. "Where's the food?"
"In the back." She whispered hoarsly. He looked at us in confusion, just realizing that somthing was amiss.
"What's going on here?..." Rebecca just shook her head before turning to me.
I met her eyes and saw my own fear reflect back at me. She wanted me to tell someone. I looked down at my hand, where the crumpled piece of paper remained. She was right of course.... I got out of the van and heard her follow behind me. Last time I kept it a secret for too long... I wouldn't make that mistake again.
The guys all looked so happy around the campfire. I would be ruining that. Once they noticed my presence they knew something was wrong. Wyatt didn't wait for my tears to escape for him to rush over.
"What's wrong hunny?" He stroked my hair and spoke softly; he knew it was bad. I had to be strong for them all. I'd been through this before but they had never gone through something like this...
Without a word I pushed the paper into his hand. We held each other close as he read the note over my shoulder. His whole body tensed as he quickly scanned it.
"Wait in Kelly's van." He whispered to me before pulling away. I nodded and kept my eyes glued to the ground as I walked away. He was going to tell all of them for me... I knew there was a reason I loved Wyatt...
It was some time before he joined me and by then I had calmed down a little. He sat next to me on the floor of the van. Our arms brushed as we breathed. "Hi." He said, barely audible.
"Hi." I repeated feeling incapable of saying anything more.
"I'm sorry I wasn't there to protect you" I looked up at him, shocked.
"Wyatt, this isn't your fault!" He tried to embrace me but I resisted. "Wyatt. Listen to me." I looked deeply into his eyes and repeated what I said before. "This isn't your fault."
"I can't believe this is happening." His face clouded over, with anger and sadness.
I knew my life was too good to be true. Maybe I just wasn't meant to be happy...
