Title: the piano knows something I don't know - P!ATD
Ryan's P.O.V
Its so boring here. Nothing ever happens. Im lying on my bed, feet in the air, letting my blood run to my head. I wonder what would happen if I stayed here long enough. Maybe my brain would explode. That would be without a doubt be the most interesting thing that has ever happened in this place.
By this place I mean the home. Oak Lane orphanage. I hate that word. Orphanage. Sounds pathetic in my opinion.
My heads getting heavy so I sit up before my head genuinely does explode. I sigh and walk around the room. I make a neat circle in less then ten steps and am once again back where I started, literally and figuratively. Next door I hear hushed voices talking about whatever it is people talk about. You see, I haven't really made any friends before. I don't know how. I guess it would make things more interesting but I decided along time ago that friends are a waste of time. Everyone here is lovely don't get me wrong, but it's all so... So soft. I feel like I'd break them in half with one sarcastic comment.
"lights out everyone!" a voice yells. It's Jane. Jane is the leader of the house. She has all our paperwork hidden away in a little office near the front door. There's nine of us in the house, with a couple of us sharing rooms. Jane knows that I don't like people and has left me alone. I like Jane.
I walk over to the light and flick the switch before getting under my covers. I stare up at the ceiling, knowing any attempt at sleep would just make it harder to come by. Besides, I've been having these nightmares recently and I'm not in the mood for another one. This place isnt bad. I mean, Id rather be here then with my real parents. Dad left a while ago and mum couldnt cope without her needles. I sigh at the thought and turn onto my side to face the wall. I trace the shadows coming in through the window with my hand. The rough paint rubs against my finger tips but it's not painful.
I suddenly hear the front door open downstairs and sit up abruptly. No one should be coming in or out of the house at this time. Jane slept in the house in a room next to her office. She'd have no reason to leave. None of the kids were aloud out after lights out, That was a pretty basic rule. I slowly place a cold foot onto the floor and walk towards the door. I put my ear to it and hear muffled voices. One female and the other male. I can't quite figure out who it is, I need to get closer. I reach out to the door handle and turn it slowly, wincing at the slight scraping sound it made as it turned.
The door slides open slowly and I take a timid step onto the hall. I pad across the carpet to the top of the stairs, the voices getting louder and louder with each step. I lean on the banister and look over the landing to see who was there. I let out a sigh of relief as I see Jane. No burglar then. She was joined with a tallish teenage boy. He had brown swooping hair and was wearing a lavender coloured hoodie that hug his a shoulders perfectly. He was making a medeocre attempt at keeping up conversation with Jane but he looked exhausted. His eyes were heavy and his shoulder were slouching under the weight of his back pack.
"Ryan?"
I'm broken from my thoughts by Jane saying my name. I freeze like a deer in headlights and just stare back at her.
"no?" I respond with, mentally slapping myself for the stupidity of my response. The boy chuckles slightly and I can't help but feel proud that I made him laugh.
Jane sighs and runs a hand through her hair. She's not mad. Jane's never mad.
"well, since you're up I might as well introduce you. Ryan, this is Bredon. Bredons going to be staying with us now."
Bredon. Interesting
I realise she's waiting for me to make some kind of move to welcome Bredon, so I uncurl myself from the banister and offer Bredon a weak smile. He returns it and looks back at Jane pleeding her to let him leave this horrifically awkward interaction. I know how he feels.
"Ryan, show brendon around and then got to bed. He's staying in the room opposite yours, with Spencer." Jane says, ushering me down the stairs to begin the tour. I look at her with wide eyes. She knows I don't talk to people... That's my thing. She smiles at me evily and rushes into her room before slamming it shut behind her.
I look over at him and he seems to have found something really interesting on the floor. I take this opertunity to properly look at him. He's insanely attractive. His features work so well together with his slight frame and even though his eyes were so exhausted, they still shone a colour I feel ive never seen before."drop your bag, I'll show you around." I say finally, his hunched shoulders returning to their normal position. I show him around the ground floor, adding little jokes in an attempt to make him smile cause God knows he needs it. He knew I was trying and smiled at everything I said, but I know he didn't mean it. I wanted nothing more than to ask him what happened. But he'll tell me that when he wants to.
We finally finished and I showed him his room.
"Spencer really nice, he'll help you if you need anything. Knows where to get you alcohol as well if you ever want it." I joke. Spencer was probably the closest I had to a friend in here, Purley of this ability to get me drink when I'm having a shit night. He seemed to be constantly having shit nights though. I wonder if Brendon will help him... Or have shit nights of his own.
"Thank you." brendon says. He surprises me with his voice as he hasn't used it the whole time I've been with him. I nod at him and he turns away to his room. It closes and I find myself stuck, staring at where he stood.
Things just got less boring.
