____________

You felt your heart pounding out of your chest as your eyes were trained on the staggering, lifeless zombies ahead of you. The only way out of this horrific mess now was to fight. There was no time to be the coward you were any more. You had no choice but to fight! You forced yourself to become unafraid, aiming  your handgun directly at the walking corpses. Leon Kennedy was the one who gifted you the weapon, telling you that it was so you could protect yourself, too.

Despite now having a gun to defend yourself, Leon still stood in front of you, using his body to shield you from the threat ahead. The barrel of his shotgun was locked onto the living dead, a blast transpiring in the air as Kennedy pulled back the trigger. Your heart leapt at the sight of dark liquid spewing out from the rotting figures as the shells pierced the flesh.

"Back up, (Y/N)!"

You stumbled back as Leon blasted at the zombies again, one of them finally giving out and dropping to the ground in front of your feet. You aimed your gun down at the limp corpse, praying it wouldn't get back up— and from the sight of its limbs breaking away from its torso— you knew it wasn't going to any time soon.

"What the fuck!" you exclaimed, averting your gaze from the horrid sight.

Shell casings from Kennedy's shotgun clinked against the concrete floor, having him to reload his weapon with little time. You shot glances at him as he stumbled back while attempting to insert the ammunition into the open chamber. The standing zombie drew closer and closer to Leon, its arms outstretched and ready to grab onto the cop. Your heart pounded harder with each step the creature took, realizing that Leon had no time to save himself. Quickly, you moved to target the head of the zombie.

Just as it was about to leap onto Kennedy—

BANG!

You pulled the triggered.

The bullet pierced the scalp of the creature, blood spewing in the air before the walking corpse collapsed to the floor. Your breaths trembled as you aimed down at the fallen zombie, ready to fire again if it even thought about laying a finger on the rookie cop beside you. Silence began to fall into the atmosphere and that's when you finally lowered your weapon to your side.

You blew out a breath of pure relief and Leon did the same, throwing a glance down at the corpse before looking over to you.

"Nice shot, (Y/N)..." he voiced softly.

Your (E/C) eyes met with his as he spoke, your heart skipping a slight beat at the way his crystal blue orbs were fixated on you. For a short moment, you stared back, thankful that he was okay.

"Thanks," you nodded. "Are you alright?"

Leon cocked the chambered of his shotgun back before inserting the heavy weapon into his holster.

"Never been better," he then said, receiving a reliefed expression from you. "Let's get the hell out of here."

"Say no more."

You followed behind Leon as the two of you carefully stepped over the fallen creatures that were sprawled on the floor, pools of blood forming beneath them. You kept your eyes up from the sight, the icky scent making you want to puke.
