_________

You gazed back at Leon Kennedy as you stood just steps away from him, a smile cracking upon your small lips at his confident words. The way he looked at you just now, it caused your heart to skip a beat. Just moments ago, you had discovered the location of the secret passageway just beneath the colossal statue in the main hall, as well as uncovered the first door by placing the intricate medallion you had found into the insertion of the surface of the wooden base. Your next objective was to get to Claire Redfied, the women you had escaped the zombie infested gas station with, who was apparently just outside the RPD. Marvin Branagh had informed you and Kennedy of her whereabouts, telling you that you could get to her from the courtyard through a door on the second floor.

Claire, you thought to yourself in the moment. I hope we can find her.

"You learnin' to shoot, Kid?"

As you looked over at the voice, Branagh gestured to the gun holster at your slim waist with the cryptic book in his hand. You took it back from him and glanced down, lifting the material of the rookie's thin jacket that you still wore. You revealed more of the weapon tucked at your side and nodded your head, peering back up at him.

"I had to learn," you told him sternly before turning your torso to Leon, your (E/C) eyes locking with his, "so I can keep Leon's back."

"Good," Marvin uttered through his short breaths. He gripped his side tightly and clenched his teeth, letting out a slight whimper in agony as he began to lay on his back. "Keep on protecting eachother—"

"Marvin," Leon called, stepping closer to the wounded lieutenant but Branagh dismissively waved his hand, rejecting the rookie cop's offer for help. Branagh let his head fall against the cushion of the chair beneath him and finally released a sigh of relaxation. He looked at you, glanced down at the book in your hand then looked away again. You glanced down at the book, puzzled. His nose scrunched and he then closed his eyes, as if he was playing off the pain that he felt. After watching his figure shuffling for a few moments, Marvin glanced at you again, then at Leon.

"I'll be fine, Rookie," Branagh managed through his shortened breaths. "Go find this Claire girl, and keep me updated. . ."

"Got it," Leon answered with a nod, his voice then falling to a hushed tone. "Thanks, Lieutenant."

Branagh closed his eyes again as his head fell to the side, resting against the cushion of the seat beneath him. The rookie cop looked over to you, starting towards the right staircase of the main hall. He gestured for you to follow him, but you remained still for a moment and glanced back over at the wounded Lieutenant. You frowned and approached his side, gingerly placing your hand on his arm. "You're gonna be fine," you assured the cop.

"I'm hopin' so..." Marvin replied weakly.

"You will be."

You let your arm fall back to your side and retracted your steps, turning on your heels to approach Leon. You handed him the book to keep on him, and he stashed it one of his pockets.

There wasn't much you could do for the poor Lieutenant, and seeing him in such pain brought sorrow to your being. His wounds were unbearable you could only imagine. Reassurance and care was all you could provide until you opened the secret passage way. Only then would you be able to get Marvin to a hospital. At approaching the stair case that lead to the second floor of the main hall, Kennedy glanced over his shoulder as you trailled up the glossy steps behind him.

"That was kind of you," the rookie cop suddenly complimented, looking ahead of him again before continuing. "What you said to Marvin. I know it's all we can really say right now."
