15-year-old Artemis Nguyen-Crock yawned and absentmindedly stirred her spoon around in her bowl of cereal. She and her twin brother were usually wide awake from the first minute or so that they woke up, but today was different. She and Apollo had been out in Star City until 3am with their new mentor, a member of the Justice League of America, Green Arrow. He had recruited them two weeks before and was planning  on introducing them to the JL's new covert team of sidekicks today. Apollo, the friendly extrovert, was super excited and enthusiastic to meet the rest of the sidekicks, but his introverted sister.... not so much.

There was a knock at the door, and the sound of a key in the keyhole, and a pretty girl with longish brown hair and blue eyes blended with brown come in. Apollo grinned and greeted his girlfriend. "Hey, Em."

"Hey, Apollo!" Emily replied with a smile, like always. Apollo had long since grown out of the nickname Polly. Didn't stop his twin from calling him that to tease him. "Hey, Art! How are you?"

"Meh," Artemis replied. Emily laughed.

"So the same as usual, huh?"

Andy walked in, his black hair slick with sweat from his morning run. He was the only one of the four Nguyen-Crock kids who hadn't inherited their mother's olive skin tone. In fact, other than his black hair, he looked just like a teenage version their dad. Just like how Jade looked like  a mini version of their mom, Paula Nguyen. The twins looked like a perfect mix of both of their parents, with their olive skin and Asian features that they got from their mom, and the blond hair they had gotten from their dad. Their eyes changed colors, from a bright brown like their dad's and brother's to black like their mom's and sister's to dark gray and even a bright, electric blue. The electric blue always came as a surprise to people who had only ever seen their dark eye colors.

Paula set some toast on the table for both Andy and Emily, knowing that the girl had only grabbed a granola bar before leaving her house.  The two kids took it, Emily only after quadruple checking that it was ok, she knew that the family of four was living off of Paula's disability pension and she didn't want to take what little the family had.

"Do I look okay?" Emily asked, showing off her outfit, tight denim capri pants and a ruffly floral blouse.

"You look perfect, as always," Apollo said.

"Yeah, you look great," Artemis assured her best friend.

"Thanks," Emily gushed. "I have that job interview, and I have to look nice."

"You ALWAYS look nice, Emily," Apollo said.

"Thanks," Emily said again. She glanced at her phone. "Oh, I have to go. See you soon." She  left.

A few minutes later, there was a knock on the door. Paula wheeled over and opened it.

"Hello, Oliver, Dinah," She said ans Green Arrow and Black Canary walked in.

They looked at the twins. "You two want to get some practice in before we introduce you to the Team this afternoon?" Green Arrow asked.

"Sure," The twins said in unison. Black Canary gestured them to follow her and they did, leaving their run-down apartment for GA's mansion in Star City.
