A/N So, so far my plan is that every other chapter will be  a flashback of sorts. Like, events that happened before the present time of the story. Does that make any sense? Well, if it doesn't, sorry. I will say when the chapter is a "flashback" chapter. It will make more sense once you read one. (Hopefully.) Song is It's Time by Imagine Dragons.

-------------------------FLASHBACK CHAPTER---------------------------

Thirteen-year-old Jade Nguyen-Crock slipped out of bed, careful not to wake her younger sister. She quietly walked to her dresser, striding silently past her sister's bed where her brothers were sleeping -it had been a rough day- and opened it one drawer at a time, putting the clothes in a black duffle bag that sat on a chair. She glanced at her little sister's sleeping face. It looked so innocent. Jade hated the idea of leaving her and their brothers, but not enough not to. She remembered packing this very bag earlier that day.

Artemis and Apollo had begged her not to go. Andy had said nothing, but he had looked sad as he held Apollo in his lap. Jade had caved to her siblings' begging, and had agreed to stay. She quietly sighed now, remembering how happy all three of her younger siblings had looked when she had said that she would stay. They didn't realize that she didn't say how long that she would stay. It broke her heart to leave her siblings in the middle of the night, but she had to get away. Dad was just too harsh now, his verbal and emotional abuse had gone through the roof, and he'd even started hitting them, not just during training like previously. Jade hoped that Dad would ease up when one of his children ran away. She hoped.

She slipped the duffle onto her shoulder and walked over to where Andy and Apollo were sleeping. She gently gave each a kiss on their temple and murmured a goodbye in their ear. "Goodbye, Andy. Take care of the twins will ya? They'll need a good influence in order to stay the sweet kids they are now. I love you. I know it won't seem like that when you wake up and I'm gone, but trust me, I do.

Bye, Polly. I love you ok, man? I know I don't tell you that a lot, but I do. I'll miss you, Bro. Stay sweet and kind and compassionate and gentle, alright. Keep Andy and Allie in check and out of trouble. They'll need all the help they can get."

She did the same to her sister. "Allie, Allie, Allie, what to say to you? Stay like you are. Compassionate, full of passion, sarcastic, caring, awesome, and mischievous. Don't lose yourself to the Shadows like I've started to. You're the one I'm most worried about. Andy flat-out doesn't want to join the Shadows, ever, and you know how stubborn he is. Apollo's too sweet to ever join the Shadows. You, on the other hand? I see the way Dad looks at you. The same way he did me. He pushes me harder than he pushes both of the boys combined and he pushes you almost as much as he pushes me. He does that because you've always been clever and talented. More so than any of the rest of us. You show amazing promise as a top dog for the Shadows. Don't follow that promise. You're a sweet girl who loves to help others. Don't let stupid Dad take that away from you, okay? Don't let the Shadows become your masters. Don't become a dog, Allie. Don't blame yourself when I'm gone in the morning. Don't let either of our brothers blame themselves, either, ok? I know how you guys are. I love you so much, Alice dear. Ta-ta."

And with that and a glance behind her, Jade was off. She slipped through the window and walked down the fire escape. Walking through the pathetic parking lot out back, she threw one last glance over her shoulder, to the run down apartment building, towards the windows that her siblings lay sleeping behind. She walked off, not once looking back again. She never intended to go back, but she would someday. Someday.

A/N So does the flashback chapter thing make sense now if it didn't before? I'm sorry that it's short. How'd you like it? Thanks for reading! Please comment. I accept constructive criticism if you have any.  God bless! (Sorry if you find that offensive. I'm Christian, you'll read that one a lot.)
