"How about I just go patrol the perimeter with Miss Martian and Superboy?" Artemis asked, exasperated.
"Good idea," Aqualad said.
Artemis left the room, rolling her eyes.
"You might could cut her some slack." Robin said. "After all, it was her arrow that saved Wally's butt against Amazo."
"No. That was Spee-I mean, Red Arrow's arrow, right?" Wally said.
Robin grinned. "Not so much."
Apollo smiled. "You're lucky that she was paying attention, or else you'd be dead, 'cuz I sure as heck wasn't."
Wally pouted. "Whatever. Still not giving her the satisfaction."
"You know, I can still hear you," Artemis said.
"Oh come on!"
A few minutes later, Robin and Superboy leave to hunt down the Fog. Artemis smirked as Superboy walked away. "Mmm that boy," She said through the link. Apollo smiled and shook his head, knowing she was trying to be annoying. It was one of her favorite pastimes.
"He can hear you," Miss Martian said angrily. "We can all hear you."
Artemis' smirk didn't even waver. "Oh, I know."
"She's just trying to annoy you guys, for the record." Apollo said.
Artemis pouted. "Aww, you always ruin my fun." Apollo just rolled his eyes.
"You embarrassed Superboy," Miss M said later.
"Didn't hear him say that."
"Must you challenge everyone?"
Artemis and Apollo both stiffened. "Where my brother and I come from, that's how you survive." Artemis said seriously. Neither girl noticed the dark shape flip through the air.
-Later-
"This keeps getting interesting," Cheshire said as the twins fired arrows at her. "Almost too interesting."
They fought her for a couple minutes longer, then Cheshire got away. She soon returned, but with backup. After fighting for a while the Shadows realized that it was a trick. Cheshire ran to go find Dr. Roquette.
"Pursuing their leader," Artemis called, running after her. "Take the rest down!" Apollo ran after her.
"Stop right there!" Artemis yelled a few minutes later when they caught Cheshire outside the restaurant where Aqualad and the doctor were. Each of the twins fired an explosive arrow. They landed on either side of the villainess and exploded, blowing her to the ground and ripping her mask off of her face.
"Well, that's no way to treat your big sister," Cheshire said with a chuckle.
"Whatever, Jade," Artemis said. "We win. Suck it up."
"Well, actually I don't have to," Jade said in disagreement. "You see, I believe that you guys aren't too keen on your new teammates find out who you really are. If you capture me, not only will I have the ability to disclose that information, I will be encouraged to do so. Do you two really wanna risk them finding out everything I know?"
The twins froze. "You-you wouldn't," Apollo said, his voice wavering.
"Now, don't get me wrong, I love you guys and all, but I love myself more. I don't want you two to get in trouble because I got away. But I wanna get away. And I know you guys secretly do too, since you love me. Let me go this once. I'll pay you back, I swear on my life."
The twins nodded and lowered their bows. Jade smiled. "Thanks, guys. I owe you one." And with that, she dropped a smoke bomb and disappeared into the night.
Aqualad and Roquette came out of the restaurant, and KF and Miss M joined them. "Where's Cheshire?"
The twins exchanged sad looks. "She got away," Artemis said.
"Oh, she got away from you two, the newbies. Big surprise," Said Kid Flash.
"Did-did you see her-her face?" Aqualad asked, yanking darts out of his chest.
"It was dark," Artemis said.
Aqualad nodded. "It is alright."
Miss Martian smacked him. "You two did great. I didn't do half as well my first time. And I know that you can't have been Green Arrow's sidekicks for very long," She smiles at Artemis. "I've always wanted a sister. Here on Earth, I mean. I have twelve back on Mars, but believe me, that's not the same."
"I-I wouldn't know," Artemis stammered.
Aqualad smiles, "The mission was a success. We saved the doctor, and that was our goal."
Apollo grinned. "Let's just head back."
