We waded through tall grass towards the school
You trudged. I skipped just behind
My white dress, floral and dotted,
flickering between yellow straw and rays of silver
At last, a root took hold
and I braced myself on your back
My fingertips just grazing
the outline of your shoulder blades
We stood there to catch my breath
The wind had swept your hair like a field of gold
Was that a smirk?
Pressing on, this time I followed your shadow
Toads sang lullabies as we rounded the creek
When we finally reached the pond,
lightning bugs lit up the summer air
And I turned to face the hazel in your eyes
You grasped my hand
I leaned in
Your hand running through my ebony tresses,
slipping just past my ear
Drawing me closer to your chest
Suddenly,
all I could feel was your heart,
your humidity
You see, a girl like me doesn't need saving
But I couldn't resist the way you rescued me.

A Meaningless Collection
PoetryA collection of variously themed poems that I write mostly on my commute to class or when I can't find a reason to fall asleep.
