JACE'S POV
"Time to get wet, Froggy" Steve's loud voice pulled me away from the daydream I had been lost in. The party was in full swing with my classmates swimming in the pool and talking in the hot tub, I should be completely relaxed right now, but I know that tone in his voice. He's always such an ass. His voice was followed by a splash and I didn't even have to pick up my head to know it was probably EJ in the pool right now. I sat up from my raft and saw Steve smiling at the pool, highfiving Adam.
She bobbed up to the top her hair crazy, water droplets on her nose and running down her face and I swear she has never looked more beautiful than she does in this moment. For a second, I'm pretty sure I saw her smile at me before she turned her attention over to Steve. Maybe I'm just imagining it.
It's called wishful thinking, lover boy.
Shut up, she definitely looked my way. Then she looked over at Steve and said, "Are you coming in? The water is just lovely." She smiled softly while she was treading the water. Steve was definitely pissed that he didn't get the reaction he was looking for. Little does he know EJ loves the water, she always has. She's not one to cry over being in the pool.
When we were little she used to stay in our pool from the second she arrived at my house to the moment she had to leave. What was always most impressive is that she could hold her breath longer than anyone I've ever met. Still to this day she holds the record of being under water the longest. I used to think she was a mermaid in disguise. The hair, the beauty, the being able to spend basically 100 hours straight in the water, it all made sense.
"Yeah Steve, when are you hopping in?" I said trying to make him forget about EJ for a second and leave her alone. I hated that he drew so much attention to her, she hates being the center of attention.
When we were little she would cry right before all of her dance solos because she hated being the only one up there. The only problem was, she was just so damn talented that she kept getting those solos that she so greatly despised in the first place. She likes to blend into the background, but thanks to Steve she is a spectacle right now.
However, she really did a great job of hiding her fears when she popped back up to the surface. She sounded almost confident, almost. It was pretty sexy the way she handled that.
She's pretty sexy in general.
Yeah, I know, that's what I'm saying! Steve's evil grin appeared on his face and I knew trouble was coming.
"Froggy, what made you come down here so late anyway? You spent like 30 minuets upstairs, by yourself, were you by chance already wet before you even jumped in the pool?" His head was tilted in feign curiously. The way he said wet was suggestive and over emphasized. He was talking incredibly loud trying to draw more people from across the pool and in the house to listen.
I love how he used the word jumped as if he didn't just push her in a minute ago. It didn't matter anyway, because any confidence that she may have had when she popped up was gone.
