I wake up and my heart drops. Today is the day, the fight of our lives. We might not all come back but everyone is ready to follow me into this battle. Loyal to the cause and willing to die for it. How did my life become so crazy? I went from drinking coffee in a book store and reading fight scenes to now leading people into one.
I get up and go downstairs without waking Ash up and see everyone gathered in the living room talking. As soon as I walked in, the room went silent and all eyes were on me. That just made me internally freak out more. All these people looking to me as their leader and me knowing not all of them will come back.
My mom looks at me and comes over to stand by me. "Just remember love, you're not alone and everyone here has something to fight for. We are going to change things for everyone. And maybe when this is all over, they'll look to you as their queen. But for now, you're their hope for the future."
I try to look brave and confident but I never even thought about who would become queen or even the fact that they all looked up to me. How could I possibly be their queen? I have no idea how to be the leader of so many people or what to do. A queen is too much for me... Isn't it?
"I don't really know what to say as a pep talk. I never imagined so many people would look up to me and for something like this. I can say that I'm proud to have so many loyal people fighting beside me for what would want. And for a better future for everyone. I don't think I would be fit to be a queen. You all deserve a person who would know how to take care of her people and give them what they want. I hope that when this is over, you all find that queen. Someone who will change things for the better and show everyone werewolves and vampires can be friends and allies. I also want to say thank for all that you're risking tonight as well. And anyone that gives their lives to this fight will be remembered and honored for their bravery. Tonight is our night and we're gonna take that castle by storm."
By the time I finished the speech I didn't know I had, they were all cheering and the way they looked at me was something I've never felt before. I don't know where that came from, it was almost like it naturally came to me.
Jake, the leader of the werewolves and my mom's close friend looks at me and says, "Spoken like queen. Don't underestimate yourself Luna, you're a born leader and all these people see that." I didn't know what to say so I smiled a little and look around at my people... My people? Why did that sound so normal....
An hour later we're saying goodbye to the ones that are staying behind and Ash doesn't want to let me go. We finish gearing up and leave the house, my mom, sister and I get on our horses. I take the lead with them on each side and the rest following. It feels like a queen leading her men... But I don't want to be a queen do I? No I can't think about this right now. I have to keep my head in the fight. As we get closer it really sinks in what we're about to do but at the same time I'm ready. We get off the horses and get into our places.
"Whatever happens tonight, just know no one will be forgotten and this will be a day no one forgets. I'm truly honored to have friends by my side tonight. Now let's go show them their time is done." Everyone erupts in battle cries and we storm the castle catching everyone off guard as we burst through the doors. My small group breaks off the main group and we charge up the stairs while we have the advantage. Fighting a few people here and there until we reach the council room. Ten more vampire guards come out and the council tries to flee. But they have nowhere to run with our people filling the castle.
"Luna, take your mother and sister and go after them!" Jake yells as him and a few others keep fighting.
We nod and chase after them. We end up in a face off in the training room. Now it's time to finish this fight and do what I told my people we would do. Their time is up and a new queen is rising. This world will never be the same and it changes tonight. Three of us and three of them but they won't be alive to tell this story. We give each other a look and charge at them giving it our all. The first thing you hear is the metal on metal as our swords collide and everything happens so fast it's almost a blur. All we know is this will be their last fight whether we live or die.
