The One Where Jayden Goes Too Far

Annie's POV

"So here we have the science classrooms." I said,, pointing at the windows that looked into the rooms. "Those are chemistry,, these ones are the biology ones and these are the physics rooms." I said,, pointing in each direction. Hayden nodded,, taking it all in.
"Look at your timetable and tell me what your homeroom is." I instructed. He unfolded the piece of paper and looked at it for a second.
"Ms Stephens,, room 302." He announced.
"Alright. Mine is Mrs Rayleigh in room 307 so we aren't too far apart." I said. Then the bell rang.
"Make some friends,, and if you don't,, me and Jayden will be in the cafeteria." I said.
"Why don't any of the other people in the home come to this school?" Hayden asked as we walked to our homerooms.
"Because they all went to different schools in the area before they moved in,, and they wanted to stay at the schools they were already enrolled in." I explained. "I think they just enrolled you here because it was the closest to the home so you wouldn't get lost,, and they wouldn't have to risk you going on your own in case none of us went there." I explained. "Here's your homeroom. I'll see you at break." I said,, pushing him into the room. I immediately heard almost every single girl in the room swoon and I rolled my eyes,, continuing on to my own homeroom.

"Hey Jay." I said,, sitting down.
"How do you know Hayden?" She asked.
"I don't know if he wants me to tell you." I said carefully. I wouldn't want someone telling everyone my secrets without me knowing,, so I didn't want to do it to him.
"Oh come on,, we're best friends. I'm not gonna tell anyone." She said.
"Sorry Jayden. It's not my story to tell." I shrugged.
"Fine. Are you friends?" She pestered.
"No,, he just puts his arm around me and calls me cutie even though he's a stranger." I said sarcastically.
"Don't be so sarcastic. I just want to know." She said,, looking wounded.
"Why are you so interested in him anyway?" I asked.
"Because he's hot and I don't want you to da... get hurt." She said,, quickly stopping herself from saying something. I'm pretty sure she was about to say she didn't want me to date him but I guess I'll never know.
"He's not gonna hurt me." I said.
"You don't know that." She said.
"Oh please Jayden. You just want to know if we're dating so you can have him for yourself. You don't care about me getting hurt or not." I said saltily.
"That's not true." She said half-heartedly,, not even trying to sound genuine. I sighed and she turned around and started talking to Ella,, the girl on the other side of her.
"You're just jealous because I can get a hot guy to be friends with me and you can't." I taunted. She turned back around and stared at me for a second.
"At least my dad didn't shoot my mom in front of my very eyes." She shot back. My eyes widened at what she said and filled with tears.
"You went too far Jayden." I said,, picking up Hayden's jacket and my bag and walking out of the room. I heard her laughing as I ran down the corridor.

I heard a door slam behind me and footsteps running up towards me as I stopped by my locker and sat on the floor,, crying into my knees.
"Annie what's wrong?" I heard a voice say. I looked up and saw Hayden looking extremely concerned,, crouching next to me. I shook my head and started crying afresh. He put his arms around me and pulled me close,, rocking back and forth as I cried.
"Tell me what's wrong." He begged,, stroking my hair.
"I can't." I sobbed into his chest. Then my breathing started to quicken and become more shallow. The world felt like it was spinning and I felt like I was falling down a dark hole. I couldn't breathe,, I couldn't speak,, I couldn't hear anything except the rushing of my own blood in my ears.
"Annie? Annie please talk to me." I heard. The voice was very quiet and faded but it was calming. Hayden held me close and tightly,, whispering soothing words into my ears until I was fully calmed down. Well I was still shaking but it wasn't as bad as it was before.
"Do you wanna go home?" He asked softly. I nodded,, tired. I felt like I was about to pass out. We stood up and I almost fell over. "Here,, I'm gonna carry you." He said.
"No I'm fine. I can walk." I said,, trying to put one foot in front of the other. I was shaking too much and I was too dizzy.
"I'm carrying you." He insisted,, picking me up bridal style and walking down the corridors. The last thing I remember was the cool outside air hitting my skin before I passed out.

I hate this chapter.
