"Look around. Think about where we are." I watch his face as he thinks, before watching his eyes grow really big, and he smiles.
"This is where we came when we ran away, because my mom said I had to go home for dinner," he laughs. I think about that day. It was one year after I had moved to Seal Beach, and became friends with Chance. We were completely inseparable. Since the park was just down the street from where we lived, we would always walk there, together, to have picnics or to just hang out. That night, we planned to have a dinner picnic at the park, but Shawnee told Chance that we couldn't eat together that night, because he had to pack for vacation the next day, since they were going on a family trip to Wisconsin. Chance came to my house, with his little Spider - Man backpack, and marched into my room saying, "Pack your bags, we are running away." He told me what his mom said, and neither one of us liked that, so I packed my Superman backpack and we left for the park. Chance had assured me that no one would find us. Not even ten minutes later, both our moms had come to the park, and we both got yelled at and grounded.
"Yeah, those were some good days," he laughs. We walk around the park, before I see the swings.
"Hey, Chance, I'll beat you to the swings," I say.
"No you won't," he says, starting to run. I start running to catch up to him.
"Hey, no fair, you got a head start," i scream, before getting close enough to trip him. As he falls to the ground, he grabs my ankle, causing me to fall with him. He laughs, before quickly getting up, and beating me to the swings.
I lay on the ground, and lay on my back to look at the clouds. I can't believe I lost... to Chance. A couple seconds later, a pair of eyes meet mine, followed by a smile. "You're blocking the warm sun. Move it, Chance," I say. Chance looks at me shocked, before grinning an evil grin. He grabs me, and throws me over his shoulder, and starts running towards the water park area. "CHANCE, PUT ME DOWN," I scream, hitting his back. He just laughs, and continues to run. I watch the little kids, staring at us. "CHANCE, IF YOU GO THROUGH THE WATER PAR WITH ME, I WILL NEVER BUY YOU FOOD AGAIN," i scream. This causes Chance to stop running, and quickly put me down. He grabs my arms, and stares into my eyes.
"Never, and I mean never bring food into our fight. You now I love my food," he says. I laugh, and run as fast as I can to the swings. When i get there, i sit down, and watch as the out of breath Chance, runs to catch up to me.
"Why are you so out of breath," I laugh.
"Because... You're heavy," he says, between deep breaths. He sits down next to me. We sit in silence for a few minutes, just swinging, until Chance says something that brings back a memory I wanted to forget. "Hey, do you remember when we were like ten, we had a contest to see who could swing the highest, and land when jumping off the swing," he laughs.
"I wanted to forget that memory, Chance! But yes, I do. You went super high and landed perfectly when you jumped off, but when i did that too, me being the klutz i am, fell when i landed, and broke my foot and sprained my knee," I groan.
"That was a good day," he smiles.
"Excuse me? That was a good day? I hope you meant to say it was a bad day, because i had to be on crutches for two months! I couldn't do anything! And it was my birthday, so I spent the rest of the day in the hospital."
"Well, no, i know that was a bad day, but thats not what I'm saying. I'm saying the good part was when we were in the hospital. You got to open birthday presents in there, and thats when i gave you the necklace that you're wearing now." I look down at the necklace. It has a gold chain, and has a rose charm on it. I can't help but smile.
"Yeah, I guess that was a good day. Now, come on, we have one more place to go," I say, grabbing his hand, and pulling him to the car.
