Talk to me

I sat in bed staring at my phone. He'd followed me. I hadn't tagged him in anything so he must have gone looking for me. I wasn't sure how to feel about that. Several notifications followed of him liking the selfies of us together...then the messages came.

>Hey beautiful ;)<

>Hi Mark< I replied, not really knowing what to say or how to handle this, anyone could read those messages

>How're you doing?<  he asked, I really wanted to rant about how confused and messed up I was after the weekend but I didn't want to seem like a psycho.

>I'm tired, how're you?<

>Same, it's been a long weekend<  I didn't reply to that, I didn't know what to reply, and didn't want to seem like I was desperately trying to hold onto any kind of conversation.

>Was your boyfriend mad?<   he double messaged me!

>He was pissed at you, not me...he's gone away for 3 weeks now for work<  I wasn't sure why I told him that, I just felt like I needed to.

>I see...you're gonna be lonely?<

>I'll cope<

>call me< and he sent his number. I didn't know what to do, why did he want me to call? I suppose he couldn't say everything he wanted to over messenger in case his wife saw, but surely he was with her now and me calling would be more suspicious.

>why?<

>Please Y/N< these messages were incriminating enough, any woman would freak out if their husband was begging another female to call them. I turned my phone on silent and went to sleep, I couldn't deal with this right now.

*********************Mark's POV***********************

She didn't call, I figured she must have fallen asleep, that's what I was telling myself anyway, rather than accepting rejection, but she had read the message so deep down I knew she had chosen not to call.

I could get her number if I really wanted to, I knew enough people. But I didn't want to look desperate or crazy, scanning half of Instagram to find her was bad enough. I sighed and deleted the messages from my account, if my wife saw those I would be a dead man, that was why I wanted her to call, not evidence of what was said that way.

I poured a scotch and made my way up to bed, I would be flying back to the states in a few days, I had to see her again before then, if only she would call.

**********************Y/N POV**********************

I woke up as the sun shone through the curtains I had forgotten to close. It was disgustingly early and I groaned into my pillow. I rolled over and the cold surface of my phone shocked me awake.

I hadn't spoke to my boyfriend since he'd gone to work so I texted him good morning.

>Good Morning sweetheart<  My phone was still open on Mark's messages and I had text him by accident. I looked to the sky in frustration, text the person I intended to text and tossed my phone across the bed. I really didn't know what to do or how I had once again gotten myself in such an awkward situation.

*************Mark's POV*************************

I didn't understand it. She had ignored my request to call which left me disappointed and feeling hopeless. But then she sent me a good morning text, you don't send that to someone who you have no interest in. So I replied like an excitable puppy and she ignored me. What was this girl doing to me?!! I had never been one to chase or check my phone every few seconds to see if she had replied. This was totally new territory to me and I didn't know how to deal with it.

I had contacts I could find out where she works within the hour. It made me a borderline stalker but we'd get over that.

I sat in a cafe round the corner from where she worked and took a photo of my latte, the mug had the logo on, before posting it on instagram and hoping she took the bait. It was almost lunch so and I hoped she took a conventional lunch hour.

Just as predicted, at not later than quarter past 12 she stormed in and sat opposite me.

"what the hell are you playing ?" she snapped, folding her arms and crossing her legs, she couldn't look more hostile. But I couldn't help but smile.

"Hello to you too" I smirked,

"Mark I'm serious" she hissed, but the use of my name made me bite my lip. "You can't just show up in my home town unannounced"

"I didn't know this was your town" I lied

"Bullshit!" she yelled and then cringed as the entire shop looked at her "You didn't look too shocked when I walked in"

"touche" I smirked

"What do you want from me Mark" she sighed,

"I just wanted to see you again" I confessed and took a sip of my coffee, "Do you want one?" I asked waving the waitress over.

"I'll have a latte thank you" she said to the waitress and once she was out of earshot added "you have a wife, I have a boyfriend, that bubble burst the last time you saw me"

"I know" I sighed "But you ignored my request to call, sent me a morning message and then gave me the silent treatment, I had to come you gave me no other choice"

"For starters that message was meant for my boyfriend I sent it you by accident and secondly we dont even know each other so why are you even bothered" she said coldly.

"Don't do that" I snapped "Don't act like its all in my head"

"I don't know what you're hoping to achieve from this" she sighed and smiled as the waitress handed her a latte, but it was forced and troubled.

"Honestly, neither do I" I admitted "All I know is that I couldn't go back to the states without seeing you again, I know it's crazy because we just met and spent little time together but that's how I feel, if you didn't feel the same you would never have come back to see me on Sunday"

She remained silent and took a few sips of coffee, she couldn't argue with what I just said.

"Y/N please talk to me" I pleaded "tell me I'm not crazy"

"Why me?" she asked, "what's so special about me?"

"Everything" I smiled and she blushed "You know, I saw you in the crowds before you even came to my table and I couldn't get you out of my head, even before I met you, I had to know you" She looked at me over her coffee cup, she looked shocked, flattered and embarrassed all at once.

"I don't know what to do" she sighed

"What do you want to do?" I asked "If you can honestly say you want me to go and leave you alone I will do, as long as you mean it"

"That's not what I want" she admitted and blushed more, sinking further into the chair and hiding her face behind her mug.

"Can I take you to dinner tonight?" I asked, voice shaky and nervous. Her eyes widened in surprise. "As friends, to get to know each other?" We both knew it wouldn't be as just friends, but I knew she would feel better if I suggested it that way.

"Okay" she agreed after what felt like forever, "Not local though, it's a small town people talk"

"That's fine with me" I smiled "I'll pick you up at 7" She nodded and smiled coyly.

"I should probably get back to work" She sighed setting down her empty mug, She got up to leave and I stood to walk her out.

"See you soon" I whispered as she stepped out into the street,

"You will" she smiled biting her lip, "Oh and Mark" she called as I turned to go back in, I raised an eyebrow and gestured for her to continue, "delete the instagram post, like I said it's a small town, if he sees it he'll know why you're here" I nodded and waved as she walked away. Suddenly nervous and excited about our date that evening.
