Hayley's words were floating through Coley's mind when she woke up. She's way too into you.
Coley put her hands over her face and sighed loudly, while rubbing her eyes.
I know she's with Trenton, but she's so into you. Just make a go for it and see how it turns out.
But Hayley still knew only half of that story. She didn't know what had been going on with Trenton, she didn't know how Trenton met Sonya and how much her loved her. Coley couldn't do this to her brother, even if everything Hayley said was true. Even if Sonya was into her, Coley couldn't pursue that, she never could.
"Sonya, I'm fucking serious, get out now!" Coley heard her brothers voice scream and sat up rapidly. She walked over to her door, so she could hear them better.
"Trenton, please, can we just talk?" Sonya's voice sounded like she was crying, desperate. "This isn't going to resolve anything!"
For a moment, it was completely silent, until Coley heard some rumbles and the bang of a door slamming shut. Another silence after that.
Coley slowly opened her bedroom door and saw a crying Sonya, sitting on the floor, against the wall next to her brother's bedroom door.
Sonya looked up at Coley and Coley put her index finger in front of her own lips, indicating the girl to stay quiet, so her brother wouldn't hear them.
She walked over to Sonya and helped her up, taking her to her own room.
Only after the door behind them closed, Coley started to talk, but it was still almost as quiet as a whisper.
"What happened?" She asked Sonya, guiding her to sit on the edge of her bed.
Coley took a seat next to her and examined her face blatantly.
Carefully, Coley reached her hands to Sonya's face and wiped away the tears from her cheeks.
"Come here." She whispered and put her arm around Sonya's shoulders. Sonya cascaded herself against Coley at the touch immediately. She buried her face in the crevice of Coley's neck and softly started sobbing again.
"Let it all out." Coley just whispered, while her hand slowly stroke the soft skin of her shoulder.

Coley had taken Sonya to the living room and settled her on the couch, since they heard Trenton went out a while ago. She was making a cup of tea for her in the kitchen and stared at nothing for a moment, while the water was boiling.
She didn't feel like she was the right person to be there for Sonya right now, because of everything that she was feeling towards the girl. Sonya didn't give Coley the impression she really had anyone else and Coley couldn't just send her home to be alone. Not when she was in this state.
When Coley walked back into the living room, Sonya seemed to be doing a bit better already.
"Here you go." She put the cup on the coffee table in front of Sonya and took a seat next to her. "Do you want to tell me what happened?"
Sonya shook her head slightly and looked up at Coley. "I don't think I should pull you into all this. It's just... It was our first fight. We'll get through it, I'm sure of it." Sonya seemed to be trying to convince herself, more than Coley.
"Any relationship needs work. Relationships without hitches, don't exist." She assured her. "Can I get you anything? Do you need anything?"
Sonya smiled at Coley and took her hand in hers. "You're already doing so much, you're here." Sonya let go of Coley's hand and wrapped her arm around Coley's neck, pulling her into an embrace.
Coley put her hands at Sonya's sides, to try to keep some distance, if that was even possible. But also to make Sonya feel like she reciprocated the hug anyway.
Sonya parted from her a little, but made sure to still hold her close. Coley didn't know if she wanted to run away, or never move from this couch with Sonya, but her body was petrified.
She was looking right at the girl, straight into those beautiful hazel eyes. A few times over Coley saw Sonya's gaze go down to her lips and back up to her eyes and Coley parted her lips just a little bit, to hopefully feel like she could breathe again.
They were way too close.
Even though that thought kept going through Coley's mind, she didn't move away. Even if she wanted to, her body wouldn't let her.
As soon as Coley felt like Sonya was about to close the distance between their lips, the front door flew open behind them and Coley jumped up from the couch.
She turned around and looked at the man in the doorway.
"Dad!" She ran over to him and wrapped her arms tightly around her father. "Dad, you're back." She pressed her head against his chest and let out a deep sigh, realizing what was just about to happen.
What might've happened if he didn't walk in, the thing that surely would've happened and the mistake she would've made. Her dad prevented that from happening and in this moment, Coley was incredibly thankful for that.

"So, Sonya, how did you and Trenton meet?"
Sonya hesitated for a moment.
"I work in a coffee shop, your son fell for the barista." Sonya smiled, but Coley could see it wasn't a genuine smile. "And I fell for my customer." She finished. Coley knew it was a lie, but it was lie that needed to be told, definitely for now. Trenton didn't seem to be ready to tell her father. He was an adult, and he was obliged to disclose that with him.
"It's great to see that the two of you found a friend in each other, through Trenton."
Coley caught a doubtful look from Sonya and started nodding at her father. "It's great to have such a good friend, especially since I, you know, don't have many of those."
Sonya glanced over at the clock and smiled apologetically at Coley's father. "I should really get going." Sonya told them and rose from her seat. "I'm sorry, but it was very nice meeting you, mister Wilson." Sonya shook his hand.
"The pleasure was all mine." Coley's father assured Sonya.
"I'll walk you out." Coley told her and also got up.
She followed Sonya to the front door and stepped outside, so she could close the door a little behind her.
"We should hang out, again... soon." Sonya spoke and fiddled a bit with the car keys in her hands, staring at those and slowly looking up at Coley. "Under different circumstances, of course." She added with a shy smile.
"We'll see, just make sure you make up with Trenton first."
Sonya nodded, the look in her eyes appeared to be a tad... disappointed.
Preferably Coley would've pulled the girl into a tight embrace, but she withheld herself from it.
Sonya turned around and walked over to her car, getting in and driving away, without looking back at Coley, who was still standing in the doorway.
